Education Strategy
- Education Queensland has produced the Bound for
Success Education Strategy to address the poor
education outcomes of Aboriginal and Torres
Strait Islander students from Cape York and
Torres Strait regions - There are 17 actions in this strategy which
Western Cape College is responsible for
proactively addressing
3Where to from Here?
- WCC produced the Where to From Here? Paper which
outlined a series of questions to determine the
College position on each of the 17 actions - A Year of Focus was assigned to each of the 17
actions - During a Year of Focus, that action is a WCC
priority
4Year of Focus 2006
- Action 1 EQ will continue to provide early
education services for Cape York and the Torres
Strait communities - Action 2 EQ will introduce a new diagnostic tool
to assess the learning needs of every student
entering school - Action 4 EQ will provide all students completing
PREP and/or starting Year 1 with an Individual
Learning Plan, to be revised each year - Action 7 EQ will partner with the Australian
Government to ensure that all Cape and Torres
Strait Island students leaving their home
community would be provided with transition
support and follow up

- Action 9 The Queensland Government will work
with the Australian Government, vocational
education and training providers and universities
to investigate opportunities to expand the Remote
Area Teacher Employment Program to new and
emerging industries - Action 17 EQ will investigate more comprehensive
public reporting of education outcomes to parents
and communities, including reports on attendance
and literacy performance

- Why do we need to be Successful?
- Focus PREP/ implementation of PREP/ transitions
through Early-Phase of Learning - Preparatory programs improved social-emotional
development, communication, numeracy, literacy
and motor skills - WCC needs to ensure high levels of transition
into the PREP Year and smooth transitions through
the early years of education to give our students
the best start to their experience with the
education system and a path to lifelong learning - The transition to school sets the tone and
direction of a childs school career

facilitating and supporting the transition
process through the Early-Phase of Learning - WCC provides early education services at each of
the College sites - WCC has successfully developed working
relationships with alternative early education

provide training and direct smooth implementation
of PREP - WCC developing the Junior School Curriculum
Guidelines incorporating the Early-Phase of
Learning consistent curriculum across sites and
levels - WCC started communicating with parents in Weipa
