Obligations while claiming unemployment benefits
3Confidentiality and Your Benefits
- In order to ensure confidentially and identity
protection regarding transactions with our office
we ask that you provide - A picture ID to all required meetings
- Social Security Card
- Current Immigration status card/Alien
verification card
- If you wish to have someone speak to a department
representative on your behalf, you must complete
a confidentiality statement (every 30 days)
authorizing that person permission to do so
4Basic Eligibility
- Must have sufficient earnings in the base period
- Must be totally or partially unemployed
- Must be available for full-time work
- Must be able to perform full-time work
- Must be actively looking for full-time work
- Must file a timely and proper claim for benefits
- Unless specifically exempted, must have an active
Department work registration - Must participate in re-employment services if
selected - Must disclose if
- required to make child support payments
- owe an uncollected over-issuance of food stamp
coupons
Certain exceptions may apply to shift
requirements for an individual who is the only
adult available to care for a child under the age
of 16.
5Benefit Year
- Started the Sunday before you opened your claim
(Effective Date) - Weekly Benefit Amount (WBA) does not change
during Benefit Year - Maximum of 26 weeks worth of benefits in a 52
week period (benefit year)
6Base Period
- Your WBA is based on wages earned during a Base
Period
- Your Base Period is determined by the wages
reported in each quarter - Wages cannot be reported until the quarter has
ended
- Therefore we use the first four of the last five
completed calendar quarters before your Benefit

10Full-Time?
- Generally 30-40 hours per week (based on what the
employer considers full time) - Does not meet partial unemployment requirements
regardless of amount earned

28Work Registration Requirement
- A full work registration is mandatory unless
specifically exempted - Registration can be done
- On the web (www.nhes.state.nh.us)
- In the local office
- If you received a Registration Warning today, you
must register by midnight Saturday of the third
week claimed for benefits, or your benefits may
be affected
29Work Registration Exemptions
- You may be potentially exempt from work
registration if you are - Involved in a Mass Temporary Layoff
- You are a valid union member likely to find work
through a Union Hiring Hall (card must be on
file) - Involved in a strike, lockout or labor dispute
- Documented reasonable assurance of returning to
work with the same employer within - Four weeks (non-seasonal employee)
- Sixteen weeks (seasonal employee)
- Partially employed with most recent employer
- Will have a new employer within 4 weeks

30Vocational Training
- Not all training is approved under unemployment
- Your unemployment benefits may be affected
- You must meet eligibility and receive prior
approval to attend school or training - A meeting with an NHES Employment Counselor is
required if you are enrolled or thinking about
enrolling into a vocational, training, or
education program
Please contact your local office to set up a
meeting with an Employment Counselor to discuss
training.

- Three dynamic seminars are available to
assist you with your work search - Sign up with the Receptionist or
with your Case Manager - A Case Manager may require you to attend one or
more of these seminars - Failure to attend a scheduled seminar may affect
your unemployment claim
41What do I do whenI find a job?
- Notify the Local NHES office or the Benefit
Adjudication Unit - Enter gross earnings for the first week you
worked, if you did not work a full week - Make sure you have claimed all the weeks for
which you may be eligible - Do Not throw away completed Work Search Logs
