• A global network connecting millions of
  computers. The Internet is not synonymous with
  the World Wide Web.

• The internet can only be accessed through an
  Internet Service Provider (ISP) such as
• Road Runner
• America Online
• Windstream
• ATT
• Ellerbe Internet

What is the World Wide Web?

• A huge electronic library full of information
  files (Consider the Source). The World Wide Web
  (WWW) is not the same thing as the Internet. The
  WWW is part of the Internet. You must get on the
  Internet to get to the WWW.

How are the Internet WWW possible?

• Computers can talk to each other through
  electronic signals
• When these computers are connected so that the
  signals can pass back and forth between many
  computers located in one area, such as a
  classroom it is called a Local Area Network or
  LAN

How are the Internet WWW possible?

• When one LAN is connected to another, it becomes
  a network of networks, which is basically the
  Internet. LANs must connect using a router.
• Just as we can use telephone lines to communicate
  through the telephone system all over the world,
  we can use our computers to send words and
  pictures through the Internet, which transmits
  the information all over the world.

• Four students will be designated as routers.
• All other students will be computers.
• Using the yarn at each table, please form a LAN.
  
• Finally, use the routers to form a mini version
  of the Internet.

  have learned about the Internet.
• Work with your group to draw and fill in the
