Lab Safety

• The main gas shut-off for this room is In the
  closet, on the green house side of the room.
• The fire extinguisher for this room is on the
  wall adjacent to the health room door, under the
  circuit breaker boxes.
• The eye wash station and deluge shower are in the
  corner by the green house door.

Lab Safety

• If you get something in your eyes, or on your
  skin you should notify the instructor and proceed
  to the eye wash station to flush the area with
  water.
• If I wanted to dilute some acid. It would-be best
  to pour the acid into the water.

• When heating a liquid in a test tube, using a
  Bunsen burner as a heat source you should move
  the test tube in a circular motion in and out of
  the flame.
• When working in a lab where chemicals, glassware
  or any other hazardous materials are being used,
  you must wear safety glasses and apron.

• Contact lenses should not be worn during labs
  because there is a chance of a chemical solution
  or glass particle getting between the lens and
  eyeball.
• Long hair should be tied back or covered and
  jewelry be removed while in the vicinity of an
  open flame to reduce the possibility of the hair
  catching fire of a burn being caused by the
  jewelry getting hot from the flame.

• You should not wear bulky sweaters or shirts
  during labs, especially if an open flame is being
  used.
• Touching and or tasting any substance in the lab
  is not allowed because it may be poisonous.

• Horseplay is not allowed in the lab.
• You test the odor of a chemical if the instructor
  told you to do so by wafting the odor toward you
  .
• The only materials are allowed on the tables
  during labs are . lab manual, calculator and lab
  notebook.

• Food, drinks may not be consumed in lab, and gum
  chewing is not allowed.
• Movement during lab should be limited to reduce
  the possibility of an accident.
• You leave an experiment unattended never.
• The only activities allowed in the lab are those
  activities specified by the instructor.

• All accidents need to be reported to the
  instructor.
• You are not allowed to work alone in the lab if
  you are making up a missed lab or for any other
  reason.
• Solids may not be disposed of in the sink.

• After the lab session is completed you should
  wait quietly while classmates finish their lab.
• It is not all right to return unused chemicals
  back into the original container.
• When heating a solution in a test tube, the mouth
  of the test tube should face away from you.

• There are no stools and chairs in the lab area
  of the classroom to reduce the possibility of an
  accident if someone trips and falls over the
  stool/chair.
• You should always read and check reagent bottles
  or chemical containers before removing the
  reagent.

  procedure you will be accomplishing.
• Gas are burners to be lit with a sparker only.
