Title: What effect did the war have on the home front

1
What effect did the war have on the home front?
  • The Blitz
  • Rationing
  • Evacuating
  • Bomb shelters
  • Women took on mens jobs

2
The Blitz
  • In 1940 London got bombed heavily. The Germans
where very clever, they invented a bomb which
when it hit it would create massive fires. This
was very bad for London because most of the
    houses were wooden.

3
The blitz affected many parts of destroying both
housing and factories other major cities were
also attacked. It went on for months and many
people died or had severe burns. Children had to
be evacuated which was very unsettling for them.
4
Rationing
  • Because of the lack of food, rationing stared.
Every family had a ration book and was only
allowed a certain amount of foods like sugar and
    eggs.
  • Even though this might sound bad, Britain became
    a healthier nation.

5
Bomb shelters
  • Bomb shelters where very important. They saved
many peoples lives. Bomb shelters where built
underground usually in peoples back garden. When
a warning alarm went off people ran into there
bomb shelters and put on there gas masks. It
would be very scary for the people in bomb
shelters it would be dark, damp and cramped.

6
Women getting jobs
  • In ww2 women took on mens jobs. They worked in
factories making planes and guns and other
machinery. Women had traditionally stay at home,
cooking and cleaning, but now they had a job.
Most of the women enjoyed there jobs because they
    learned new skills.
