2KNOWSLEY CONTEXT
- Knowsley is predominately greenbelt, but is a
well industrialised outer city area. - High levels of unemployment with the claimant
rate at 4.2 compared with the England average of
2.4. - Indices of Deprivation (2004) show that Knowsley
is a very deprived area. i.e. one of the most
deprived 10 of authorities across all six
measures of deprivation. - Adults have poor numeracy (31) literacy (24)
levels (compared to approx 24 nationally) - Only 78 of primary pupils continue their
education in Knowsleys secondary schools
3KEY OBJECTIVES
- To widen the choice of curriculum pathways in
order to maximise individual achievement from the
age of 14 and increase progression to further
education and higher education. - To extend high quality provision that puts
individual students needs at the heart of the
learning process. - To maximise the use of the Vocational Skills
Centre that will allow students to access
learning pathways within technological
environments that replicate the work place and
provide the achievement of recognised vocational
qualifications.

- An ambitious and unique approach to education
which puts the learner at heart of the process - The traditional break at 16 will disappear as
students follow a planned progression route from
14-19 - Each student will have a home school which will
deliver the core curriculum - Students will have the chance to choose from a
variety of courses at a variety of venues - The curriculum Offer will be broad and all
students will have the chance of following a
vocational programme. - A unique partnership of key agencies working
together to create a discrete phase of 14-19
