Title: STRATEGIC RESEARCH AND EXTENSION PLAN
1welcome
2STRATEGIC RESEARCH AND EXTENSION PLAN (SREP)
3WHAT IS STRATEGIC PLANNING ?
It is the process of determining what an
Organization intends to be in the future and
how it will get there. It involves 1. The
goals to be pursued. 2. The programmes, services
offered to accomplish the goals. 3. Mode of
organizing and utilizing the resources needed
people, money, expertise, facilities etc.
4NEED FOR SREP
- To get an overview of the prevailing Scenario
in the district - To explore and understand the problems and
opportunities in different farming systems,
preferences and priorities of the farming
community - Facilitate long term visioning and strategic
planning for agricultural development - Facilitate involvement of all actors at
different - levels in the development process
5Contd..
- Facilitate integration and redesigning of
On-going development programmes - Development of annual action plans for each block
- Develop Farmer Centered, Market Oriented,
Research and Extension management System

departments, public, private and NGO.
10STEPS IN DEVELOPING STRATEGIC RESEARCH AND
EXTENSION PLAN
- Orientation of District Heads of Line
Departments, Scientists, NGOs, and other Key
Stakeholders on Strategic Planning. - Identification of Agro-eco situations (AES) in
the district with SAU and departments - Identification and selection of representative
village(s) under each AES for collection of
data / information through participatory
approaches
11Contd
- Constitution of AES teams representing
Block Level Functionaries, Scientists of SAU
and NGOs. - Training of AES teams on team building,
participatory tools, FSA/FSBE concepts,
sustainability issues - NRM, IPM, INM, etc. - Identification and analysis of Success Stories,
Major Farming Systems, technological gaps and
ITKs.
12Contd
- Collection of data from representative villages
of each AES by involving farmers of different
categories on the following aspects. - Major farming systems and enterprises in each
farming system - Identification of gaps in each farming
situation of the enterprise and reasons for gaps - Problems of different enterprises under
different farming systems - Prioritization of problems
- Identification of indigenous and exogenous
solutions for the prioritized problems ( joint
interaction of farmers, extensionists and
scientists)
13Contd
- Identification of most appropriate options /
solutions for overcoming the problems. - Consolidation of data / information and sharing
with other AES teams. - Sharing with farmers for verification and
collection of missing data, if any. - Sharing of data, information and prioritized
problems and solutions with district heads of
line departments, scientists, input and other
service providers in the district.
14 Check the information with project objectives
and requirements Compare with secondary
data Identify critical issues, problems, needs,
opportunities and threats in perspective of
district, state and national priorities.
- Conduct SWOT for major farming system in each AES
- Find out the possible research and extension
issues as per the farmers needs - On the basis of prioritized issues district
research and extension strategies will be
developed
15- Activity schedule for each of the
- strategy will be developed at district
- level
- ATMA management committee will
- scrutinize the District Action Plan with
- on going schemes (convergence)
- Approval of SREP and District Action
- Plan by G.B. ATMA.
