Title: Homosexuality

1
Homosexuality
  • The views of Catholicism, Buddhism and Islam

2
What is Homosexuality?
  • It is a sexual attraction to (or relations with
    persons of the same sex.

3
Catholicism Homosexuality
  • The Catholic church views homosexual practices as
    sins gravely contrary to chastity.
  • They do not approve homosexual marriage, the
church believes the sole propose of sex and
marriage is procreation. They have however
updated this by saying sex and marriage also
brings couples closer together and strengthens
    their relationship.
  • Although they strongly disapprove of
homosexuality, in no means do they approve of
    being prejudiced against them.

4
What the Catechism says
  • 2357 Homosexuality refers to relations between
men or between women who experience an exclusive
or predominant sexual attraction toward persons
of the same sex. It has taken a great variety of
forms through the centuries and in different
    cultures. Its psychological genesis remains
largely unexplained. Basing itself on Sacred
Scripture, which presents homosexual acts as acts
of grave depravity, tradition has always declared
    that "homosexual acts are intrinsically
disordered." They are contrary to the natural
law. They close the sexual act to the gift of
life. They do not proceed from a genuine
affective and sexual complementarity. Under no
    circumstances can they be approved.

5
Buddhism Homosexuality
  • Homosexuals are attracted to Buddhism because it
    is the least homophobic religion.
  • Buddhist believe if the relationship promotes
happiness and well-being of both partners then it
    is acceptable.
  • No where did the Buddha leave any teachings on
homosexuality. He encouraged you to be a lamp
until yourself, before accepting your religion
you should examine and test the truths of its
    teachings.

6
What says the Dalai Lama?
  • Homosexuality, whether it is between men or
women, is not improper in itself. What is
improper is the use of the organs already defined
as inappropriate for sexual conduct. You see
Buddhist dont believe in oral, manual or anal
sex, not just for homosexual, but for
    heterosexuals as well.

7
Islam Homosexuality
  • Muslims have a harsher view of homosexuality
  • There are only five references to homosexuality
in the Quran, all however only deal with
    homosexual males
  • The Hadith sates, When a man mounts another man,
    the throne of God shakes.

8
How are homosexuals treated?
  • In islamic schools of thought and jurisprudence
    do not believe in homosexuality.
  • The Hanafits school (in east Asia) teaches that
you should not physically punish homosexuals.
  • The Hanabalites (followed in the Arab World)
teaches that severe punishment is alright.
  • The Shafi school (followed in the Arab World)
teaches that at least 4 males must witness any
homosexual act before the person can be found
    guilty.

9
Al-fatiha
  • Al-fatiha is an organization that gives support
    for gay Muslims.
  • In a pamphlet but out by Al-fatiha, they estimate
since their revolution in 1979, there have been
4,000 executions of homosexual in Iran, 10 public
executions in Afghanistan performed by the
    Taliban army.
