Title: How we pass our days in MIKE lab
1How we pass our days in MIKE lab
- Murmured by Dr. Arnon Rungsawang
- Massive Information Knowledge Engineering
- Dept. of Computer Engineering
- Faculty of Engineeing, Kasetsart University
- Bangkok, Thailand.
2Murmured Legends
- Color joking color
- Color emphasized color
- Color true color
- he, him the boss
- they spiders
3First question, how many working days in a week?
- Our team leader always says that you work when
you feel comfortable, you work hard for the best
you would get, .. - He also always say that the working hour in MIKE
lab can be 24/24 and 7/7 if you always feel good
of what you are doing. - For him, I think hes never heard a clock chimes,
and it seems that he addicts with his work 24
hours a day
4What kind of research work MIKE people adore?
- Almost everything about the WWW
- IG abuse the network, e.g. releasing some clumsy
spiders to wander the web, - IM abuse the hard disk space and CPU time with
unarranged web, both its hyperlink and data. - QP imitate the Google but overwhelm the user
with bad results, hey hey hey! - Waste the MAEKA CPU time, hey.. abuse abuse and
abuse again and again, how stupid we are! - And the Linuxian things, e.g. Linux CD Harddisk-
less, DDoS detect, Security framework,
5Stupid spiders, what are they?
- Spiders wander the web by following the
hyperlinks. - They analyze the web, synthesize the knowledge of
what they see, and follow to other hyperlinks,
besides exploit the network bandwidth.
6The data the spiders get is really useful?
- Certainly!
- if they can recognize that web page again.
- If they can well distinguish one from another.
- If they can decide which pages to keep or which
hyperlinks to follow. - If they can know the next time they should visit
for a newer version of that page.
7How can MIKE manage the gigantic data of web
retrieved?
- Just keep it in every PC in clusters or machine
in grid computing infra-structure. - Just arrange it well so that we can reach one of
the web pages easily and rapidly. - Or just buy more hard disk or invest more with
the network equipments
8Is the hyperlink knowledge useful?
- Yep, this make us know about which pages are the
most popular? - The pages that most people like to reference.
- The clouding cluster of web pages.
- Summary of a web page by dereferencing.
-
9How MIKE people abuse the MAEKA?
- Imitate oneself as a cluster computing expert.
- Burning the CPUs 24H/day, 7/7
- Exploiting many disk space,
- Abusing the network bandwidth.
10Seem that MIKE work steps through Grid!
- Yep, at the moment we are devising a GridIR
prototype on AP-Grid. - Try to put more load to other computing clusters
around the world. - Let they known, who is the real devil or real
voice of application killer! - Epidemic of Distributionism thought
11Is there any training thing in MIKE lab?
- Never, never, and never.
- But I always see him (ie., the leader) talk,
talk, talk, without doing many research things.
I wonder if one can let the research go on its
way by just talking and not doing! - Am I joking?
12Is there any lab meeting aboard or outside KU?
- Have ever heard that almost every student goes
aboard to talk for his own work. - Sometime hear that they arrange their meeting au
bord de la mer (near the sea shore), or dans la
montain (on the moutain), but I do not believe
this.
13Two years are enough to waste my time in MIKE lab?
- Do nothing, I say for 3 or 4 years are not
enough. - I am very busy with my job, not research work,
how long I gonna find out my way to leave?
14Voice from some research students in MIKE lab!
- Research likes a painful thing, that can hurt you
a lot, a lot, and a lot. - Work hard likes salt that make you more hurt, but
it heals. - Young students scream likes prisoners.
- Expert students become sadism! Or masochism!
- Cause when you are expert, you can
learn much from your painful experience and can
find your way out, unless escape from the
problem.
15Finally, is the leader generous and helpful?
- No, no, he will kick you out if you are busy with
you job too much. - Quite cruel if the research work has not been
done as it should be. - But if you are sincere with him, he is quite
helpful.
16If I need more information about MIKE lab, I can
..
- Talk directly with him, ie. the leader.
- Talk with his students, alumni, taxi or tri-cycle
drivers, truck drivers - Visit their web site www.mikelab.net which has
never been updated since a million year! - Visit their lab on the 7th floor, 707.
- See their publication list.
