3CTE Cooperative Education
- Cooperative education is a method of instruction
that combines career and technical classroom
instruction with paid employment directly related
to the classroom instruction - Teacher-coordinators must teach the students they
supervise where cooperative education is
required. - In programs where cooperative education is
optional, teacher coordinators may supervise
students from other classes WITHIN a program area.

station and the role of the student-trainee with
in it - Discuss the evaluation process with the training
sponsor - Set up a plan of visitation
- Subsequent Visits
- Always set an appointment with employers
- Observe and evaluate progress--should be a
purpose of every visit - Review the training plan to determine if
identified tasks are being performed and make
adjustments to the plan if they are not being
performed
9Teacher-Coordinator Training Site Visits
- Subsequent Visits (Continued)
- Observe the student on-the-job and be aware of
working conditions, facilities, and

15Evaluation
- The students performance must be documented on
the training plan. - The coordinator is responsible for the
documentationusually during the evaluation
visit. An employer may complete the evaluation
column prior to the visit but to save the
employer time, and to help the coordinator better
understand the evaluation, it is best if the
employer goes through the evaluation with the
coordinator during the visit, with the
coordinator making the notations.
16Evaluation - continued
- A copy of the evaluation should be sent to the
employer for verification and records retention.
Any modifications should be noted for future
evaluations. - End of the school yearthe training plan should
be filed as a record of student achievement.
Related classroom instruction should be
documented on a student competency record. Both
are retained for five (5) years.

21REPORTING ON CTERS SEDF (Fall) Item 17
Cooperative Education Enrollment Enter the number
of students who participate in cooperative
education on-the-job training. These students
should be reported as "co-op" by only one
teacher-coordinator for each reporting period.
Teachers who are not the coordinator for
the students should not report the students as
"co-op." Where cooperative education is an
optional method of instruction, if a coordinator
is coordinating student(s) out of another
class within the same program area (See new
guidelines, 2007 Revised Cooperative Education
Handbook, Supervision.), the coordinator counts
all the cooperative education students on one of
his/her SEDF course reports. Even if the number
of co-op students reported on a coordinators
SEDF form exceeds the class total.
22REPORTING ON CTERS SEDF (Fall) Example A
coordinator has 20 students enrolled in a
Computer Information Systems course (co-op is
optional) and reports 13 black students, 1
Hispanic student, and 6 white students. The
coordinator has 12 students using the cooperative
method of instruction in that class and also
coordinates 10 additional students from two other
Business and Information Technology
classes. Code Item 17 22 co-op students (12
10 22)
