Luke 737-48
  • 37And, behold, a woman in the city, which was a
sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at meat in
the Pharisee's house, brought an alabaster box of
ointment, 38And stood at his feet behind him
weeping, and began to wash his feet with tears,
and did wipe them with the hairs of her head, and
kissed his feet, and anointed them with the
ointment. 39Now when the Pharisee which had
bidden him saw it, he spake within himself,
saying, This man, if he were a prophet, would
have known who and what manner of woman this is
that toucheth him for she is a sinner. 40And
Jesus answering said unto him, Simon, I have
somewhat to say unto thee. And he saith, Master,
say on. 41There was a certain creditor which had
two debtors the one owed five hundred pence, and
the other fifty. 42And when they had nothing to
pay, he frankly forgave them both. Tell me
therefore, which of them will love him most?

9
Luke 737-48
  • 43Simon answered and said, I suppose that he, to
whom he forgave most. And he said unto him, Thou
hast rightly judged. 44And he turned to the
woman, and said unto Simon, Seest thou this
woman? I entered into thine house, thou gavest me
no water for my feet but she hath washed my feet
with tears, and wiped them with the hairs of her
head. 45Thou gavest me no kiss but this woman
since the time I came in hath not ceased to kiss
my feet. 46My head with oil thou didst not
anoint but this woman hath anointed my feet with
ointment. 47Wherefore I say unto thee, Her sins,
which are many, are forgiven for she loved much
but to whom little is forgiven, the same loveth
little. 48And he said unto her, Thy sins are
    forgiven.

commanded to love one another. The holy kiss
was not immoral or impure but the result was
    real, God-inspired love.

spake, that they should see his face no more. And
they accompanied him unto the ship.

29
Bible Kisses
  • The farewell kiss of salvation Acts 2036-38
  • The Ephesians loved the Apostle Paul. They knew
that his journey to Rome meant that he would
    never visit them again.
  • In this life we must say good-bye to those who
    die.

  • The foolish kiss of idolatry Hosea 132
  • By the time of Hosea, Israel had perfected its
idol worship. There were small personal idols
that could be carried on ones person. The
custom was to kiss the statues to show honor and
    reverence.

Bible Kisses
  • The foolish kiss of idolatry Hosea 132

  • Christians today would not dare kiss an idol. Or
would we? Sports, money, entertainment, etc.
    have become gods to many.
  • Do we kiss the calves of modern idolatry today?
  • The friendly kiss of hypocrisy Luke 2247-48

33
Luke 2247-48
  • 47And while he yet spake, behold a multitude, and
he that was called Judas, one of the twelve, went

  • The friendly kiss of hypocrisy Luke 2247-48
  • This is one of the most despicable passages in
the Bible. Judas kiss was not only to identify
Jesus, it was an attempt to fool Christ into
    thinking he was innocent.
  • Prov. 276

35
Prov. 276
  • 6Faithful are the wounds of a friend but the
kisses of an enemy are deceitful.

Bible Kisses
  • The forgiving kiss of compassion Luke 1520

37
Luke 1520
  • 20And he arose, and came to his father. But when
he was yet a great way off, his father saw him,
and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his
    neck, and kissed him.

38
Bible Kisses
  • The forgiving kiss of compassion Luke 1520
  • This passage reveals God as a loving Father. The
prodigal expected rebuke and reprisals from his
father. He at least expected an I told you so.
  • What he got from his father was a kiss,
compassion and joy that he had returned.
  • God is pictured as standing ready to receive us.
We may be a great way off, but he is ready to run
to us if we will take the first step.
