Title: Practicing Edification

1
Practicing Edification
  • More than just a word Christians must practice
    edification. Rom. 155-7

2
INTRODUCTION
  • Edification is absolutely a necessary endeavor
among Christians if one is to be in good thing
    standing with the Lord.
  • Edification is preached from time to time, but
not enough of Gods people take the Lords word
to heart to strive for such.
  • Other times, edification is nothing more than a
perverted practice in the guise of keeping the
    Lords church pure.
  • What we all need to recognize is that edification
is a need, and must be practiced.

3
Practicing Self Denial
  • Esteeming others greater than yourself. Phil.
    23
  • It is contrary to our human nature to view
another as more important than ourselves.
  • But, with the spirit of Christ, we can learn from
Gods word and from godly examples among us, how
to practice this aspect of self denial.

4
Practicing Self Denial
  • Giving preference (showing honor) to one another.
    Rom. 1210
  • Naturally, if we will not esteem others greater
than ourselves, it is impossible to give
    (sincere) preference to one another.
  • True love humbles ourselves and selflessly honors
    the well being of another.
  • Brethren, we must actively seek ways to giver
    preference to each other.

5
Practicing Self Denial
  • Bearing with the weak.
  • Like other areas of our lives, many of us might
consider ourselves the strong in faith among
    our brethren.
  • I know more or behave better than another
brother, therefore, Im the stronger brother.
  • Paul wants Christians who have liberty on a
given matter to exercise their faith with the
brother whose conscience is weak (whose mind over
the matter is defiled). Cp. Rom. 14

6
Practicing Peace Making
  • There are times when conflict will occur among
    saints.
  • Paul and Barnabas. Acts 1536-39
  • There have been and will continue to be times
when brethren among us will sharply disagree
with each other both believing/justifying their
    positions.

7
Practicing Peace Making
  • As much as depends on youmake peace with all
    men. Rom. 1217-18
  • This is such a difficult and unnatural manner in
which to live, unless true love exists within us.
  • There are godly examples in the Bible which
should encourage us today. Acts 161-3

  • Further, there are doubtless brethren among us
who serve as modern examples of those who strive
    to make peace.

8
CONCLUSION
  • In essence the practice of edification is
    accomplished through brotherly love.
  • May the church here continue to build on the good
    work of edification.
