1
War Conspiracy
  • Global Initiative
  • By Evelyn, Melissa, Lucas
  • 2008

2
Definition of War
  • The waging of armed conflict between enemies.

3
The Effects of War
  • War costs both huge amounts of money and
    casualties.
  • Territories are destroyed and there are shortages
    of food and other supplies.
  • The application of weapons, the destruction of
structures and oil fields, fires, military
transport movements and chemical spraying are all
examples of the destroying impact war may have on
the environment. Air, water and soil are
polluted, man and animal are killed, and numerous
health affects occur among those still living.

4
World War II
  • Took place between 1939- 1945.
  • Main causes of World War II rise of nationalism,
militarism, and the problem of unresolved
    territorial issues.
  • World War II killed more people, involved more
nations, and cost more money than any other war
    in history.

5
The Government
  • Europe was divided into two groups The Axis
powers were Germany, Italy, and Japan. The Allies
were Britain, The Unites States of America,
    China, and France.
  • The Axis powers ruled many empires that dominated
large parts of Europe, Africa, Southeast and East
    Asia, and the Pacific Ocean.
  • The involvement of the Allies was inevitable
because they were either under a direct threat of
invasion or invaded by the Axis Powers.

6
The People
  • 70 million people served in the armed forces and
    about 17 million combatants died.
  • In the U.S it brought millions of married women
    into the workforce.
  • There were about 60 million people who died and
40 million of those people were civilians.

7
The Children
  • Nearly 2 million children were evacuated from
their homes at the start of World War II.
  • The first experimental gas chambers were used on
German children who were mentally incapacitated.
  • During the Holocaust about 1.5 million children
died, including over a million Jewish children,
tens of thousands Gypsy children, and German
children who had mental or physical disabilities.

The War in Uganda
9
The History of the War
  • For the past 21 years, the Lords Resistance Army
(LRA) and the Ugandan government have been waging
a war that has left nearly two million innocent
    civilians caught in the middle
  • The LRA can be traced back to a woman named Alice
Lakwena, who said that a spirit visited her and
told her to overthrow the Ugandan government.
  • Their group gained momentum, she was exiled from
Uganda and her supposed cousin Joseph Kony took
control of the group and made it into a rebel
    army.

10
ThePeople
  • In 1996, as a response to the LRA attacks in the
villages, the Ugandan government forcibly evicted
thousands from their homes and relocated them
into overcrowded camps in hopes of providing
    protection.
  • But over a decade later roughly 1.5 million
individuals live in these camps and struggle to
survive among the effects of abject poverty,
    rampant disease, and near-certain starvation.

11
The Children
The biggest effect of the war on children has
been the appearance of Night Travelers tens of
thousands of children forced to hide in the night
to escape being killed or abducted by rebels. If
captured by the rebels, these children of war are
torn from their families and forced to become
soldiers under the maniacal leadership of Joseph
Kony .

The War Against Terrorism
13
The War in Iraq
  • a.k.a Operation Iraq Freedom.
  • Began March 20,2003.
  • The main reason for invasion was the idea that
Iraq possessed and was building nuclear weapons
in violation of a 1991 agreement.
  • The U.S. went in and captured Saddam Hussein, who
was later executed. It was said Saddam Hussein
was cooperating with al-Qaeda to launch terrorist
    attacks on the U.S.
  • Other reasons for the invasion stated by
officials included concerns over Iraq's financial
support for the families of Palestinian suicide
bombers, Iraqi government human rights abuses,
spreading democracy, and Iraq's oil reserves.

14
The Government
  • Saddam Hussein was the president of Iraq when the
    U.S. invaded.
  • He fled into hiding as the U.S. began their
    search for him.
  • In the U.S. the people supported the war efforts,
but once they realized it was going to last much
longer than they thought it would be, some turned
to anti-war protests and activities no longer for
    the war.
  • Others thought the U.S. was no longer needed in
rebuilding Iraq they wanted the soldiers to come
    home.
  • Some people think that the costs of war can be
used for more important aspects like poverty.

Consider the costs...4,681 per household.
1,721 per person. 341.4 million per day.
15
The People
  • Violence erupted, many soldiers targeted by road
    side bombs.
  • Growing sectarian violence, and continuous
    anti-coalition attacks took place.
  • Rebellions who dont want the U.S. in Iraq to
create a democracy attack soldiers and military
bases, not only killing Americans, but innocent
    civilians.
  • The new government the U.S. has enacted in Iraq
has asked that U.S. troops withdraw, but
President George W. Bush has stated that he is
not ready to further withdraw any more troops.

16
The Children
  • Malnutrition among young children in Iraq has
nearly doubled since the United States led an
    invasion of the country.
  • Roughly 400,000 Iraqi children are suffering from
"wasting," a condition characterized by chronic
diarrhea and dangerous deficiencies of protein.
  • By one count, 60 percent of rural residents and
20 percent of urban dwellers have access only to
    contaminated water.
  • Currently, the killer of children in Iraq is
    gastroenteritis, caused by drinking contaminated
water. One in eight children do not see their
    first birthdays.
  • 4,500 children are dying every month.
