2Rule No. 1
3Graphics take back seat to text
- If the content is important, people didn't come
to admire pictures or backgrounds
4If graphics are done correctly
- In fact, people won't even remember seeing
pictures or background - Or ... not seeing them
5But they will
- Remember the presentation
6Rule No. 2
7Contrast may be troublesome
- Graphics with small areas of dramatic contrast
will inhibit comprehension - If possible, reduce the images contrast to
boost the apparent contrast of the text
8Is this easier to read?
- Read this please
- What are the candle flames doing to the content
of this slide? - How long should I wait for you to read the short
line?
9Or is this easier to read?
- Read this please
- If the content is important, people didn't come
to admire pictures - In fact, if the background is done correctly,
they won't even remember seeing pictures
10Or not seeing pictures
- But they will remember the presentation
11Rule No. 3

19Rule No. 5
20Image size is important
- Never, NEVER, NEVER make an image
- Larger than 20-30 percent
- Of the size it first appeared
- It will get fuzzy and pixilated
- And that will draw attention to the image
- Which creates a readability problem!
21Dont force it big, like this ...
22Leave it as is, like this ...
23- Or find a larger image, like this ...
24Rule No. 6
25Never size an image disproportional
- In other words, never size it to fit a space
thats a different dimension - It will look funny ... or odd
- or worse it will distract from the text
- Which creates a readability problem!
26What is this?
What is it supposed to be?
27Oh ... now I see
- And ... now I can also read the text
28Rule No. 7
29Use the Picture Toolbar
- If you make a mistake
- Or want to start over
- Use the Reset button on the Picture Toolbar
30Finding the picture toolbar
- Any time you click on an image or photograph
- The Picture Toolbar should appear
- If it doesnt, highlight picture
- And click right mouse button
- In pop-up menu, select Show Picture Toolbar
31Rule No. 8
32Heres one finalpresentation tip
33Final tip
- Always put a blank slide (nothing on it at all)
as the very last slide. - If you hit the forward key once too many
- Your audience wont see the message
- End of slide show. Click to exit. on the last
screen - Heres an example
34- Okay, just kidding keep going ?
35- Or ... this will be the last message your
audience sees - Now, thats REALLY important, isnt it?
