  • An introduction to SAM,
  • our services provisioning package

v. 2005.09.13
2
What is SAM? Heres an overview
3
SAM will
  • Increase your companys Service Order (S.O.)
processing efficiency by posting orders in a
    timely manner
  • Accurately post S.O. details to your switch (or
    other provisioned equipment) eliminating the
possibility of human misinterpretation or entry
    mistakes
  • Perform billing to switching equipment audit
    verifications and report on exceptions

4
SAM menus Audit submenu
5
SAM will
  • Operate on a dedicated Windows PC or server
  • Function with different databases for storage
  • Maintain a history of the S.O.s processed
  • Produce a variety of detail and summary reports
  • Log all provisioning conversation activity

6
  • A typical provisioning conversation consists of
  • 1) An initial services query (if change/delete)
  • 2) Posting the service order to your equipment
  • A services verification query to ensure that the
    order was posted properly

7

8
SAM will
  • Retry a S.O. if it fails to post on the first try
  • Move the S.O. stage code forward in Billing based
    on pass/fail/more-work conditions
  • Notify users of critical errors in S.O. posting
    via popup messages or email
  • Provide Control Table maintenance options

11
SAM will
  • Automatically post common S.O. types
  • New installs / reconnects / number changes
  • Various types of disconnects / removals
  • Toll Denials / Restorals
  • Carrier PIC changes
  • Feature additions / removals
  • DSL, VM, and Intercept updates

13
SAM does not
  • Replace a clerical person or switch tech
  • Post ALL S.O.s only the types you want to
  • Complex S.O.s like these are not covered
  • Centrex or EBS business customers
  • S.O.s that are dependent upon other S.O.s
  • Auto-correct S.O. entry mistakes. If the
provisioned equipment will accept what the S.O.
says should be done, SAM tries it.

14
SAM
  • Speaks your switching equipments language
  • Interfaces with the following equipment (so far)
  • Nortel DMS-10, DMS-100, and DMS-500
  • Stromberg Carlson DCO
  • Siemens EWSD
  • Cognitronics Voice Mail
  • Lucent Voice Mail
  • Innovative Systems AP
  • Audicron Intercept
  • Cognitronics Intercept
  • Paradyne DSLAM

15
SAM
  • Talks to your C.O. switching equipment via
  • A TCP/IP connection
  • Either in-house across your internal LAN network
  • or remotely utilizing port servers across your
    WAN
  • Or a Telnet session
  • Or a direct serial connection
  • Or a dial-up MODEM connection

16
  • SAM interfaces with the following Billing
    systems
  • MACC
  • CommSoft
  • GenSoft
  • StellarRad
  • CSG ICMS
  • Were always interested in building an interface
for whatever other systems and equipment that
youd like for us to provision from and to.

17
SAM
  • Talks to your companys Billing system via
  • A direct ODBC SQL query of the database
  • Or an API (Application Program Interface)
  • Or as a last resort, a screen-scraping method
  • The API method is the preferred approach
  • It provides a fence that data is exchanged over
  • We hand requests to our Billing neighbor
  • Our Billing neighbor hands us data back
  • SAM does not access the Billing files directly
  • The Billing vendor doesnt access the SAM files
