2This is the NW state on the Colorado Plateau
3WHAT is Utah?
4The Colorado River runs through these states
5What is Colorado, Utah, Arizona?
6These states make up the Colorado Plateau?
7What is Utah, Arizona, Colorado, and New Mexico?
8This is the main eroded landform in the Colorado
Plateau
9What is the Grand Canyon?
10This is eroded earth materials that landed in
another place
11What is deposition?
12This body of water is responsible for the
formation of the Grand Canyon
13What is the Colorado River?
14This was the name and landform of the Grand
Canyon prior to its erosion/creations
15What is the Colorado Plateau?
16The Grand Canyon is primarily found in this state
17What is Arizona?
18DAILY DOUBLE!
DESCRIBE THE PROCESS OF HOW THE GRAND CANYON WAS
FORMED. USE SPECIFIC VOCABULARY IN YOUR
DETAILED EXPLANATION.
19Should we give them it?
20These are eroded earth materials (bet the Grand
Canyon has lots of those)
21What are sediments?
22DAILY DOUBLE! (you will need a timer or clock
for this one!) In 20 seconds or less, name as
many MODELS (super models dont count) as you
can. You may look for models in the room you are
working in, reflect from your journal, or just
think of them off the top of your head. One
point will be awarded for every correct model
stated. ARE YOU READY?
23A model is a copy of an object especially one
made on a smaller scale.
24BACKWARDS QUESTION How did the slope of our
experiment effect the process of erosion
deposition?
25Both the sand and clay traveled greater
distances.
26- A delta is
- Another word for canyon
- a fan-shaped deposit at the mouth of a river
- A long stretch of water
27- A delta is a fan-shaped deposit
- at the mouth of a river
28TRUE OR FALSE Water carries sand farther than
clay?
29FALSE, clay is lighter than sand, therefore it
can travel greater distances
30This one is worth 5 points Because it is a Bill
Nye question! What happens when Tectonic plates
overlap?
31They heat up
32Describe the materials deposited in the drainage
basin for the Standard river plateau
experiment. THINK COFFEE (FILTERS!)
33Only clay was deposited in the drainage
basin. Clay is lighter than sand so it can travel
greater distances.
34Alright smarty pants. How did the deposition in
the drainage basin during our flood stage
(plateau) differ from the standard river
(plateau)?
35There was a greater amount of water coming from
our water source (mountains). This extra water
coming forward created greater force, so a
greater amount of clay was deposited into the
drainage basin. However, there was still no sand
in the drainage basin (too heavy, not enough
force).
36Ok, so you have a photographic memory. Lets see
just how good it is. Explain the deposition in
the drainage basin from our Standard
river.SLOPE!
37During the experiment a lot of clay and sand
began to clog the hole at the bottom of the green
tray. This hadnt happened in previous
experiments. The incline of the landform
combined with the force of the river helped
carry sediment farther than before. While it
appeared that there was more clay in the basin
than before (it took a lot longer to drain
through the filter) there were pieces of sand
present in the basin as well (that hadnt
happened before either!)
38Have you been studying? How can you be THIS
GOOD, just from memory alone? WOW! You must have
a seriously wonderful teacher! ) Okheres the
four point task! Compare the deposition in the
drainage basin for our Standard slope experiment
to the amount of deposition In the drainage
basin for our flood slope experiment. GOOD LUCK!
39Here goes The standard slope drainage basin did
have some sand (due to slope and force of
standard river). The flood slope drainage basin
had A LOT of sand due the the amount of water
being released at once. This created greater
force which devastate the landform quickly
(although not in great detail). therefore, there
was more sand AND clay in the drainage basin.
40YOU HAVE THE WICKED SMARTS! Label each coffee
filter tray appropriately. Plateau/standard Platea

42This is the wearing away of earths materials
by water, wind, and ice
43What is erosion?
44This is a V-shaped valley eroded by a river.
45What is a canyon?
46Yes or no - meander means a curve or loop in a
river?
47Yes!
48This is a small representation of an actual
object, something that serves as an example for
something else
49What is a model?
50This is a system of rivers and streams that
drain an area like The Colorado Plateau
51What is a drainage basin?
