Changes to the Statistics
  • The statistics can be affected by various
    elements
  • Redundancy
  • Ill Health
  • Leaving school or college
  • People moving into the area
  • Relationship breakdown

5
Something to consider
  • 80 of public service resources in Cornwall are
spent on 20 of the people and families in crisis
  • Working with this 20 will in theory increase
the available resources throughout our area.

6
Some of our Partners
  • Neighbourhood Managers
  • Residents Associations
  • Health Professionals, Trainers Champions
  • District Council Homelessness Officers
  • Housing Association Support Workers
  • Connexions Advisors
  • Secondary Schools and Colleges
  • Children's Centres

The TEAM
  • The Neighbourhood Action Team works in three key
    elements
  • Employer Engagement Team
  • Advisors
  • Money Management Experts

9
Employer Engagement Team
10
Who are we?
  • Dirk Lengton
  • Sue Osborne
  • Richard Jackson

11
The Employer Engagement Team
  • Our role is simple.
  • To meet with local employers
  • Listen to what they say about their staff,
    training and recruitment
  • Establish what the problems are
  • Try and identify a solution
  • Understand all the provisions that are out there
    and refer appropriately

12
What do we do differently?
  •
  • WE LISTEN MORE THAN WE TALK
  • We have two ears and one tongue so that we
would listen more and talk less.
  • Diogenes (404-323BC)
  • (Greek Philosopher Cynic)
  • We are already learning about the kind of
    problems businesses face when recruiting.

13
What have we done so far?
  • Networknetworknetwork!
  • We actively engage with businesses and employers
    (over 100 in 8 weeks)
  • Regular breakfast meetings with the Business
    League (weekly networking)
  • The FSB Conference
  • Linking partners together and creating a stronger
    network for all

14
What have we learned?
Employers are fed up with all the logos
They dont have the timeor the energyto care!
15
So what do they want?
  • One point of contact for all the provisions
    available
  • Staff that come with essential life skills
  • Staff that come with basic key skills
  • Increased Retention (in-work support for new
    staff)
  • Staff that come with real Vocational Skills - not
    Qualifications

16
Therefore we offer
  • The set up and full management of Work Experience
    placements
  • In work support for up to 6 months
  • An umbrella style of contact we will identify
what they need and only then suggest a solution
(they wont see all those logos!)
  • Honest matching of customers to vacancies
(working the agenda of the employer not our
    own)
