• Adopted an Open Source Policy operating Suse
  Linux both at the Back end and the Front end.

  developing a Centre of excellence with focus on
  - Development of a cost friendly rural wireless
  kit with UMU as a test bed.

• Institutional collaboration
• Selection of finalists as teaching/lecturing
  assistants
• mentored and trained through the Faculty of

• Full time qualified staff e.g Phd MSc MBA-IT
  (Academia vs Industry)
• Dynamic IT Environment
• Power fluctuations and costs of running generator
  Insurance costs
• Taxes on Educational / training equipment

• Relatively small number of students is easy to
  manage in terms of training / preparation
  CompStudent ratio 13 , Staff 11.8
• Institutional collaboration e.g EACOSS, MUK, KU
  MUBS, etc

Way forward

• Strengthening Inter institutional collaboration
• More need for tracer studies to give feedback to
  the demands of industry
• Positive Discrimination in remuneration of IT
  staff
• Strengthening and Supporting Research and
  Publication as an add-on to existing net carry
  home e.g I_at_Mak
