General information 1

• The idea to do an exchange had been in my head
  for a long time and my friends had had good
  experiences from exchange
• Destination I wanted to go to French speaking
  country and I had heard that small citys are
  better to feel quicker like home
• I had been studying for 4 years chemistry before
  leaving
• My plan was to make a reasearch project which was
  a clear entity

• 5 months in Montpellier ENSCM (Ecole Nationale
  Supérieure de Chimie de Montpellier)
• Research project in organic chemistry for 4
  months
• Intensive French-language course for the start
  and a weekly lessons during the semester
• Before leaving I had been studying French for
  about 6 years at the school but I didn't really
  speak it

Expectations (before leaving)

• Learn a language
• Perform a research project for practical training
  in the laboratory
• New experiences
• New friends
• Get to know French habits and culture

Expectations (fulfilled)

• The whole experience was great
• Got the laboratory work training done there
  (spirocyclic phosphozene compounds)
• Learnt French
• The collaboration with my professor and other
  staff went well
• Got lots of new friends and got to know the
  French culture and habits

The student life

• Normally the weeks went working in the laboratory
• At weekends we made some short trips to villages
  closed by
• Some were organized by the student of the ENSCM
  but mostly we organized the trips with other
  excange students
• We saw movies and concerts that were organized in
  Montpellier
• After the labs we went out with the friends and
  colleague

Acknowledgement of the ECTS credits

• The acknowledgements are presently under
  consideration in my own department
• According to the professor normally they are
  coverned as expected
• I received in the ENSCM 30 ECTS credits from the
  laboratory work (report written in English)

Bureaucracy

• The bureaucracy at both ends wasn't too hard
• The ENSCM students had organized clubs (e.g.
  sport, cinema ect) one of them was called a club
  ERASMUS
• The ERASMUS club helps the exchange student with
  the accommondations, registerations, bank
  accounts, telephone cards, etc.
• Well organized alltogether
