Title: Adding Competencies to Assignments

1
Adding Competencies to Assignments
  • Update 12/13/04

STI Classroom
2
Copying assignments from one class to another
does not copy skills/competencies!
  • Many of you copy your assignments from one class
    to another.
  • You should be adding skills, but if you have been
copying activities, the skills have not copied
    from the other class.
  • This means that it may be necessary to check
assignments to see that you have
    skills/competencies attached.
  • If skills/competencies are not attached, you will
want to add them to the assignment.

3
Adding Competencies/Skills to an assignment
  • When creating a new assignment, click on Insert
    under skills.
  • Choose which skill you would like to address on
that particular assignment by clicking on the
    skill/comp.
  • You should choose only 1 skill/comp per
    assignment.
  • After selecting which skill/comp the assignment
    addresses, click Apply.

4
Moving Assignment to Lesson Plan
  • You will return to the assignment screen, but
before you hit OK, I recommend that you put a
check in Move to Lesson Plan. Now you can hit
    OK on the assignment.
  • When you hit OK, you will have a window come up
that says Create Lesson Plan From Activity. It
is best to put a check in all 3 boxes and then
    hit OK.
  • The Lesson Plan is an additional feature that
could help with assignment planning as we move
into next semester and next year.

5
New way to copy Assignments
  • Previously I had instructed to copy assignments
using the Gradebook menu and Copy Activities.
  • It does copy activities, but we have found out
recently that it does not copy skills/competencies
    .
  • We should no longer copy activities this way!
  • A new way to copy activities, which will copy
skills, is the Activity Import/Export feature.
  • It is a very easy way to copy activities from one
    class to another.

6
Copying Activities from one class to another
(with skills/comp)
  • Go to the Activity List screen for the class with
    activities you want to copy.
  • Click on Export on the bottom right corner of the
    window.
  • A message telling you to select activities will
    pop up and hit OK.
  • Select the activity(s) you would like to
copy/export. You can pick more than 1.

7
Exporting Assignments
  • After clicking on the assignments that you want
to export, click on export again.
  • It will ask if you do want to export. Click on
    yes.
  • Now that they are exported, you can import them
    into other classes.

8
Importing Assignments
  • Go to the class gradebook that you want to copy
    activities to.
  • Go to Define Activities.
  • Now you will click on Import.
  • When you click on import, you will see the
assignments that you exported from the other
    class.
  • Select the assignments that you want to copy and
    click on import.

9
Importing Assignments
  • After you choose to import you will have another
    window pop up.
  • You can choose to retain dates and skip if the
    category doesnt exist.
  • THE IMPORTANT PART IS TO MAKE SURE THAT YOU PUT A
CHECK IN THE IMPORT SKILLS IF LINKED.
  • When you click on apply, the assignment, along
with the skill/competency, will now be
    copied/imported to the class.
