What is a business?

• A business is an organization that produces and
  sells, for a profit, the goods and services that
  satisfies our needs.

• A partnership
• A private company
• A public company
• A trust

Private Company

• Private companies are not listed on the
  Australian stock exchange.
• In some instance the directors of the company
  will be asked to give a personal guarantee when
  financial institutions are given loans.

Public Companies

• In contrasts public companies are listed on the
  Australian stock exchange.
• Most public companies are large. Examples in
  clue Westfield, Billabong and Woolworths.

Franchises

• In recent times franchises, has also become a
  very popular form of business structure.
• a franchisor is the individual or organization
  that grants the franchise, and the franchisee is
  the person who purchases the franchisee.

Cooperatives

• Another form of company is a cooperative where a
  number of people combine for a particular purpose.
