Historical Fiction Experience the past with a
story that is woven around actual events and
people of the past. Some stories will make
little or no reference to recorded events or
persons, but the historical facts will dictate
how the character will live, what they wear, eat,
study etc. You will find historical fiction in
the Fiction section. It is FICTION based on
history! The call number will start with
F. Examples Lillys Crossing, Mollys Fire, Fair

Fantasy
Fantasy Stories that tend to deal with Good
vs.Evil, sometimes the meaning of life. Animals
or inanimate objects have human characteristics.
Odd things can happen such as flying cars and
changing worlds. Scary stories fit into this
genre as well. You will find Fantasy stories in
the Fiction section. The call number will start
with F. Examples Harry Potter, Pure Dead Magic,
Redwall, Charlie Bone, Frog Princess, Molly Moon

Science Fiction
Science Fiction Difficult to distinguish from
fantasy. Will contain ideas about future
technology and new discoveries and how it will
affect lives. Facts must be consistent to
maintain believability. Spaceships and
futuristic settings are common themes. You will
find Science Fiction in the Fiction section. It
is FICTION based on science! The call number
will start with F. Examples Galax-Arena, Star
Wars, Virtual War, My teacher is an Alien, Space
Brat

Realistic Fiction
Realistic Fiction Imaginative writing that
accurately reflects life as it could be lived
today. Focuses on problems of today, and shows
an honest representation of characters thoughts
and feelings. You would have the feeling that you
could walk into this story and live it. You will
find Realistic Fiction in the Fiction section.
It is FICTION that has something to do with life
today! The call number will start with

Bridge to Terabithia, Week in the Woods, How Tia
Lola Came to Visit

Mystery
Mystery Otherwise known as the Who Done It,
something in the story needs to be solved. They
usually have familiar settings, contemporary
characters, straightforward plot development and
may also contain humor and/or suspense. Mysteries
can be found in the Fiction section, the call
number will start with an F. Examples Chasing
Vermeer, Time Stops for No Mouse, The Ghost in
the Tokaido Inn, The Boxcar Children series,
Nancy Drew Series

Sports
Sports Fiction Stories that involve some type of
sport that tends to play an important part of the
story. Sports heroes may be mentioned but the
story itself will not be true. You will find
Sports Fiction in the Fiction section. It is
FICTION that has something to do with sports!

Adventure Stories that take the reader
someplace either somewhere around the world or
as close as the back door. The characters tend to
encounter other people and many exciting things
happen to them throughout the story. Adventure
