3Basic Event Flow
4LOGIN
- The next slides will demonstrate the steps for
the first PlacePro Login. This will include - Login www.placepro.com Student Login
- Accepting the Work Placement Participation
Agreement - Update personal information (address, phone,
Email)
5Read the agreement then Click I Accept.
6Click the Profile tab to view and edit your
personal information. Be sure to click Save
Profile at the bottom of the screen to save any
changes you made.
7PORTFOLIO
- The PORTFOLIO section is used to upload and
manage documents (cover letters, resumes) - The two documents are then grouped together into
a Portfolio to be used to apply for a job. - Use meaningful document names
- Eg In the filename, use part of the company
name, part of the job title, then the file type
(cover letter OR resume). Here is an example - Robotech Assistant Manager Cover letter.doc
- Robotech Assistant Manager Resume.doc
8UPLOADCOVER LETTER or RESUME
- In this example, we will upload to PlacePro a
cover letter that was created using Microsoft
Word. (follow these steps to upload a Resume to
PlacePro)
9Click the Browse button to locate the document
to upload on your hard-drive, USB key or CD.
101. Select Cover Letter from the drop-down menu
(down arrow). 2. Click the Upload button
11Adobe PDF note
- When you upload a document, the PlacePro server
automatically converts the document to Adobe PDF.
- If the document is being uploaded is already a
PDF document - the upload engine will not re-encode them. It
will leave the document as is. - If the document being uploaded is not a PDF
document - the encoding process may change the format of
your documents. Always check your documents
after you upload them to PlacePro. - If you experience formatting changes after
uploading your documents, either - reformat your documents using simpler formatting
- or use Adobe Acrobat Professional (loaded on all
computers in labs at George Brown College).
12For example, this is the resulting screen after
having uploaded two cover letters and two
resumes. Next, we need to create a Portfolio
to group the cover letter and resume together to
apply for a job. Click New Portfolio.
13CREATE A PORTFOLIO
- The next step is to create a Portfolio to group
the cover letter and resume together. - The Portfolio will be used to apply for the job
at ABC company.
14Select the documents you want to use to apply for
the job at ABC Company (one cover letter and one
resume).
15Enter the sequence of the documents. Enter 1 for
the Cover Letter and 2 for the resume. Click
Next Step.
16Enter the name of the Portfolio then click
Finish and Save.
17Documents are now loaded and one portfolio is
ready to apply for the job at ABC Company.
To update documents, make changes in Word and
then click the Replace link above to update the
document on PlacePro. To change the portfolio,
click Modify.
18JOB SEARCH ACCOUNT RELEASE
- In order to view jobs for your program , your
account will require to be released. - upload a sample and error free cover letter and
resume as instructed by the Industry Liaison
Office. The staff will review the documents and
if these are error free, your account will be
released. - Once your account is released, you will be able
to view jobs throughout the semester until you
have accepted a job. - Do not contact the employers that you see on
PlacePro. For these employers, you must deal
through the Industry Liaison Office.
19Click Quick Search (you can enter filters if you
like to limit the search results if you wish)
20Result from job search. Notice the legend at the
bottom of the screen, these flags indicate the
status of your job applications.
21Note the job control data (especially the
deadline date). Click the company hyperlink to
get more details about the job.
22JOB APPLICATION
- The documents (cover letter and resume) have
already been uploaded in PlacePro and we have
created a Portfolio to group the documents
together. We are now going to apply for the job.
23- Click the Apply flag to enable it on
- Select the portfolio to apply for the job using
the drop-down menu. - Click Save and Return to Search
24Familiarize yourself with the Legend. These
indicate the status of your job applications.

26AFTER THE JOB DEADLINE
- The status flag beside the job will change to
yellow indicating the job deadline has passed.
You will no longer be able to apply for the job
once the job deadline has passed. - The administration office sends the job
applications to the employer. - If your application is error free, your
application will be sent to the employer and the
status flag Your application has been approved
and your documents have been sent to the
employer will be enabled. - If your documents had errors, your application
will be rejected and the status flag Your
application has been rejected will be enabled. - If your application is rejected, you will not be
able to re-apply for that job. - If your application was rejected
- See the Annotated Document Flyer for details on
how we can make comments on your Acrobat PDF
files and send them back for your attention.
27AFTER THE JOB DEADLINE
- The employer will review the approved documents.
They will contact the administration office
indicating which candidates they wish to
interview. This process can take anywhere from a
few days to a few weeks.
28The job is closed and documents sent to the
employer. Now we wait for the employer to get
back to the administration office.
29You will be sent an Email if you have been
selected for an Interview. You will also see
this link on the job screen.
30INTERVIEW
- If you are invited for an interview, you will
- be sent an Email from the administration
- office asking you to log on to PlacePro and
- signup for an interview slot.
- In this simulation, ABC Company has invited
Ashley Waters to be interviewed.
31Click the Interviews tab
32This confirms that Ashley is invited for the
interview.
33Select Accepted from the drop down menu then
click the Schedule hyperlink.
34Select one of the available time slots by
clicking one of the available time slots.
35This screen confirms the interview for Ashley
Waters for May 29th from 145pm to 230. Click
the My Interviews screen to see a summary of
future interviews.
36Although you can modify the intereview time on
PlacePro, ensure you communicate with the
administration office if you are making the
change within 48 hours of the interview.
37INTERVIEW
- The interview is your most important meeting with
the employer. - Be prepared
- Obtain appropriate direction for the interview
(interviewer name, direction to the office). You
can get directions from http//ca.maps.yahoo.com/
- Polish up on your interview skills (request
assistance from your professors or from Career
Services if you require it) - Review the employers website to understand
background information about the employer - Dress professionally (borrow clothes from Student
Affairs if required) - Bring extra copies of your cover letter and
resume - Show up early for the interview (at least 15
minutes)
38JOB OFFER
- If you are being offered the job
- The employer will contact the administration
office to inform them of their decision. - The administration office will contact you to
inform you of the job offer. You will have 48
hours to accept or decline the job offer. - If you have accepted the position, you can verify
the placement details on PlacePro by clicking on
the Placements tab. - You will no longer be able to view jobs on
PlacePro after you have accepted a position.

- Click on the LOG OFF tab to log off PlacePro when
