Preparation
  • Students should already have experience working
    in groups - workshop models
  • Students should already be familiar with computer
    skills following a power point presentation,
    using a mouse, following links
  • Day 1 group work involving KWL chart
  • Day 2 computer lab research
  • Day 3 Group work finishing KWL chart

  • Graphic organizer on chart paper
  • Magic markers
  • Word Processing

Mini-Lesson
  • Motivation What is your religion or beliefs?
  • When we observe or learn of an unfamiliar
    religious practice, we can respond with
    confusion, fear, judgment, curiosity.
  • For example, do you know why Muslim people fast
    (do not eat) during Ramadan? Or why Jewish people
    light candles every Friday night (Shabbat)? Do
    you know when Christianity started? Do you know
    how many gods are worshipped by people who
    practice Hinduism?
  • Ask yourselves, 1) What do you know? 2) What
    would you like to know?
  • Distribute chart paper

Group Work/Share
  • Break into your groups of 4. Leader, Recorder,
    Presenter and Questioner
  • Fill in the KWL chart as a group
  • Decide which person will research each religion
  • Share - Presenter will say one item that the
    group knows and one item that the group wants to
    know from KWL chart.

Homework
  • Day 1 Student will interview a family member
    about his/her religious beliefs and practices.
  • Day 2- Complete Venn Diagram comparing my
    religion to myself
  • Day 3 Imagine that you are a person who
    practices another religion. Write a journal
    entry about one day in your life.
