What is a Grant?

• A sum of money made available usually by an
  external entity
• Sometimes called soft money
• Examples

Why do we need grants?Why apply?

• Sometimes organizations simply do not have the
  resources needed to do everything they (we) would
  like to do
• This is especially true in the public sector
• Why apply it makes good business sense

Pay Attention to Details!

• Always remember that the grant process is highly
  competitive
• Be sure to read the RFP carefully and note
  important information such as deadlines.
• Be sure to complete every part of the application
  and complete each part accurately

Justify in the Context of Your Needs

• It is not enough to simply say We want or need
  this
• You must be able to demonstrate in writing why
  you need in the context of the grant criteria
• We will discuss this more in sessions 2 and 3
