Year 8 focus The Challenge

• Purpose
• Introduce a focus in Year 8 to try to reverse the
  national Year 8 dip in attainment and attitude
• To incorporate the various reward systems of the
  school, making them more attractive to the pupils
• To increase the learning ethos of the year group
  - cool to succeed

Has it been effective?

• Number of teachers have said its been useful in
  altering the behaviour of a class or individuals
• School academics are cheered by their peers as
  champions cool to succeed
• Surprising Improving pupils are cheered by their
  peers not for clowning around, but for their
  better attitude toward school cool to succeed
• Pupils are enthusiastic about the school reward
  systems
• The average attitude to learning for the whole
  year has increased for each progress check since
  the end of year 7
• The average assessment levels as a trend is
  rising

• At the end of every term 40 winners go to an
  outdoor pursuits centre for the day
• To win
• Top 10 boys and girls and attitude to learning
  score
• Top 10 most improved
• 10 chosen by the year 9 staff
