Multivariate approach
  • Cognition Selective encoding, comparison,
    combination, divergent thinking, evaluative
    ability, knowledge,
  • Conation Cognitive styles (ex intuition),
personality traits (ex risk taking), motivation,
  • Affect State, trait, valence, intensity,

Task Analysis
  • Ex Creative designer vs creative manager
  • Identify
  • The specific set of resources involved in a
    particular activity
  • The relative weights of these different factors
  • The way that the resources are integrated

Putting it all together Relating individual
and task profiles
  • Individuals can be described by a profile of
    cognitive, conative, affective and environmental
    factors
  • Tasks can also be described by a profile of
    factors needed for creative performance
  • The individuals profile will match the task
profile more or less, leading to differential
    levels of performance across tasks.

Measurement and selection
  • Measures of multiple factors cognitive ability
    tests, personality questionnaires, environment
    questionnaire
  • Selection based on matching individuals profiles
    to task requirements

13
Creativity training - Education
  • Training should focus on multiple factors
  • Individualized training programs
  • Training includes enhancing abilities and
learning when to use them during the creative
    process

14
Conclusions
  • The match/ mismatch between an individuals
    psychological profile for creativity, the
requirements of a task in terms of creativity,
and the features of the organisational context to
support creativity are the keys to understanding
    creativity.

15
Policy Implications
  • At individual and societal levels, the key to
creativity optimization is person-task fit (e.g.
    , guidance counseling)
  • Different task domains, in different societal
contexts can be described as variants of a
general model, with differential weights for each
    psychological  ingredient  of creativity.
  • Individuals creative capital can be developed
via societal investment in education, notably
    individualized educational programs (IEP)
