Australian School-based Apprenticeships
  • The college offers employers the opportunity to
take on an Australian School-based Apprentice.
  • While there is no age limit on students
undertaking an AS-bA, they must be enrolled as a
    full-time student at the college.
  • Most AS-bAs will commence during Year 11

9
Australian School-based Apprenticeships
  • AS-bAs are for 2 years part-time, then 3 years
full-time with an employer to complete the
    apprenticeship
  • Employers sign a five year training contract
arrangement approved by NSW Department of
Education Training (DET) in accordance with the
    relevant Vocational Training Order (VTO)
  • The usual 3 month probation period applies, with
an extension to 6 months available if required
  • Students must complete a minimum of 100 days of
paid work in the workplace prior to the Dec 31st
of the HSC year (See handout of AUR05
    Competencies)
