The Invention
  • The hand grenade is a small bomb. It was the size
of a can of soup. The grenade was a shape of a
can or it was kind of a ball and had many small
bumps so you could get a grip to throw it. To
detonate the grenade you had to pull the little
ring on the grenade. The soldiers did not pull
the ring with their teeth.you would have around 3
to 6 seconds until it would explode.

The Inventor
  • William Mills was born in 1856. He was involved
in the making of aluminum. William Mills invented
the first safe hand grenade in 1915. People
called it the mills bomb. He made it so you could
unscrew the detonator so it would be safe for
transporting. He made many types of grenades. He
made many. Later over the years he made better
grenades. He also made the grenade launcher. It
could launch the grenade much further.

5
Uses Today
  • We do not use grenades that much these days
anymore. We stopped using grenades during the
1960s.We do not use them because we can now use
rocket launchers and tanks. But we still we some
times use grenade launchers. In the army they
still get to use grenades for practice.
Productions are still making grenades today.
