  • The exhibitions have been touring for 10 years
    and have been seen by more than 25 million people

  • What is Plastination?
  • A process invented by Dr. Gunther von Hagens to
    preserve specimens for medical education
  • Bodily fluids and fat are replaced with liquid
    plastic then hardened with gas, heat or light
  • The specimens are preserved and never decay
  • It can take 1,500 hours of work to plastinate a
    whole body

  • Can we touch them?
  • Touching is not allowed, but you will be able to
    get very close
  • The specimens are preserved like plastic and
    dont smell
  • Photographs and films, including with mobile
    phones, are not allowed

  • Where do the bodies come from?
  • People donate their bodies to be plastinated and
    used for education after they die
  • More than 9,000 people are on the donor register
  • Some of the embryos and foetuses come from
    other, older collections
  • The animals are donated by zoos and died of
    natural causes

  • Its about human development from
  • conception to old age
  • Its about the body living through time as it
  • changes, grows, matures, peaks and wanes
  • Its about the way who we are now
  • influences the person we will become

  • How long does it take to go round?
  • We will be in the exhibition for (time planned -
    allow 1 - 2 hours)

    all the displays
