"A WebQuest is an inquiry-oriented activity in
which some or all of the information used by
learners is drawn from the Web. WebQuests are
designed to use learners' time well, to focus on
using information rather than looking for it, and
to support learners' thinking at the levels of
analysis, synthesis, and evaluation." Bernie
Dodge, San Diego State University

a list of information sources
  • Pre-selected so that learners can focus their
attention on the topic rather than surfing
  • Include textbooks, audiotapes, face-to-face
    interaction with other people
  • Divide the list of resources so that some are
examined by everyone in the class
  • Give separate data sources to learners. This can
ensure the interdependence of the group and give
the learners an incentive to teach each other
    what they've learned.

authentic assessment
  • Difficult to gauge with (readily) with a
multiple-choice test. An evaluation rubric is
    called for.
  • Evaluation rubrics would take a different form
depending on the kind of task given to the
    learner.

21
Example of an Evaluation
The grade will be based on three separate
evaluations. First, while working, the teacher
should make observations of how students are
working individually. Then at the end of the
project, have students evaluate themselves and
the other members. Then everyone will evaluate
the final projects. The teacher will combine the
scores with their own in the percentage of 70 to
30, with the teacher's score weighing more.
Teacher Individual grade- 100 points
(grading each student individually) Group
individual grade- 100 points (group members
grading each other) Project grade- 200 points
