16I.P.I. KEY LEARNINGS
- Results
- The bulk of the instruction at the high school
continues to be teacher-directed instruction
(Level 4) at 59. This is far above the range
for effective high schools. - Active student engagement (Level 6) is at 9
which is far below the range for effective high
schools. - The good news is that the levels of disengagement
(Levels 1, 2, 3) are at or below the ranges for
effective high schools.

22SCHOOL CLIMATE COMPARISONYEAR-TO-DATE
23PTHS is a GOOD High School
24PTHS is NOT a GREAT High School, even though it
once was (a number of years ago).
25The PTHS achievement trend is down
26PTHS Reform
- The two most fundamental reforms for improvement
- Extensive meetings with teachers outlining
actions needed to course correct - Curricular priorities
- Instructional techniques
- More learning time to implement the
instructional and curricular improvements
27PTHS Reform
- Next falls PTHS schedule will include much more
meeting time for teachers (40 minute PLC meetings
each day). Added together, the new schedule
provides 7,680 hours of professional
development/meeting time. - Next falls PTHS schedule increases learning time
in English, Math, and Science by a Total of 51
hours for each subject area (the equivalent of
118 additional lessons). Added together, the new
schedule provides the equivalent of 1.6
additional years of instruction in each tested
area (English, Math, Science) over a typical 4
year academic career.
28Next Steps
- How classes will change (though instruction
and/or curricular priorities) will be decided
this summer and throughout next year. However,
the structural changes that the new schedule
affords lays the foundation for the necessary
changes.
