Rouen Cathedral

• Gothic Cathedral
• Sat in a fashion shop across the street and
  painted the cathedral constantly throughout the
  day
• Would change the canvas every half hour or hour
  to capture changes in light and atmosphere.
• Trying to catch the change in time

Water Lilies

• At end of life, moved to Giverny, France
• Bought an estate with garden with long time
  partner Alice
• Spent long hours painting in the garden
• Large water lily paintings, over 250 paintings
• After Alice died, Monet was devastated and
  eventually lost most of his eye sight

Final Years

• Devastated by Alices death, he lost his eldest
  son 3 years later.
• Decided to paint water lilies to give to France
  as a gift, but died before they were finished.
• Struggled with the idea due to WWIsoldiers dying
  for freedom and he is painting flowers.
• Died in 1926 at the age of 86.
