Marks Show del Slide
  • Photography for idiots

2
-Depth of Field-the range of acceptable focus
  • Wide focus- When objects that are several feet in
front of and behind the subject are focused and
    sharp.
  • Shallow focus- objects that are close to and
around the subject and unfocused and blurry.
Attention is drawn to subject only.

-Shutter Speed-the amount of time that light is
let in through the open lens
  • The length of time a frame is exposed will
determine how much range of movement is
    reproduced.
  • Faster shutter speed- the shorter time the
shutter is opened will decrease the amount of
light that can hit the frame. Clearer more
    precise shot.
  • Slower shutter speed- keeps the shutter open
longer and allows more light to hit the frame.
Usually comes out as blurry action.

-Film Stock-how sensitive to light your film is
  • High speed film- (400) film is more sensitive to
light. This allows you to catch more high quality
    action frames.
  • Low speed film- (100) not as sensitive to light.
Used to capture darker images incased in less
    light.

-Black and White-Vs-Color-
  • In black and white images no colored light is
received by the camera frame. It is shown as
black or the absence of color intake, while the
white light is still taken in.
  • A color image is take normally and allows all
variants of light to enter onto the frame.

-Camera Angle-the way the camera is positioned
for the shot
  • The angle at which the shot is taken directly
effects the way you view the subject.
  • High Angle- superiority of subject
  • Low Angle- Inferiority of subject
  • Third-person Angle- View from another subjects
    view

-Frame-what we see and hear
  • You can traditionally frame the picture with a
rectangle or use less practical methods with a
    circle or oval.
  • In Still photography you can frame with a square,
    horizontal, or vertical when printed.
  • Techniques
  • Letterboxing - band of white and black around the
    picture, cropped equally all around.
  • Pan and Scan - shifts the cropping according to
    the content of the frame.

-Composition-how the picture looks
  • Strategies and methods
  • Lack of look space will result in unbalanced
    composition
  • Object to close to edge will create unbalanced
composition and seem to pull attention off of the
    frame.
  • Rule of thirds- Derived from golden mean
  • Ideal proportions of frame and division of frame
  • Placing subject on thirds line will
    symmetrically balance it
  • Look space- Subjects gaze or sense of direction
    with psychological weight.

-Lighting-the amount of light displayed on image
  • Less light means chance of underexposed images
  • With more light means chance of an overexposed
    image
  • In order to put emphasis on a subject only allow
light to shine on or around that object
  • Or to take away attention keep object shadowed or
    dimly covered
