Title: Amandas Poems

1
Amandas Poems
  • An exercise in insanity

2
Mystery Man
  • I cant tell you if his eyes are green
  • Or brown or hazel or blue
  • Or even if theyre the clearest ever seen
  • Even if I cant look in them, I know hes true.
  • When he speaks his baritone voice is clear
  • Calm, reassuring, he sings in my dreams.
  • I get a rush whenever hes near
  • My troubles disappear, it seems.
  • My brain is a jumble when hes around
  • I wish he could peek inside, see that Im the
    One.
  • Whenever I speak I feel like a clown
  • Everything I say sounds juvenile, dumb.
  • Tonight, I slumber, Ill see him again
  • Together in my dreams, me my mystery man.

3
Dr. Pepper
  • My motivation to get up in the morning
  • Comes in a maroon and white can.
  • Sweet as sugar and cold as ice,
  • Parting my lips and tickling my tongue.
  • An instant pick-me-up,
  • Propelling me through my day.
  • If it wasnt for that little can
  • Id still be in bed.

4
Dans Poem
  • The phone call came on Christmas morning
  • And with it my world fell apart.
  • I couldnt believe the words that I heard
  • Hearing them broke my heart.
  • The voice on the end of the line said
  • Theres been an accident your classmate is
    dead.
  • My tears fell like a giant waterfall
  • Before long, there were no more left in my head
  • My family asked me, What was the news?
  • I had to tell them what was wrong.
  • They couldnt believe it either --
  • That day lasted for so long.
  • I called my classmates and let them know
  • Dan was dead he wouldnt be coming back.
  • Some cried, some didnt believe
  • But now all our lives were going to lack.

5
  • He wasnt the star of any school play,
  • He wasnt the quarterback of the football team,
  • He kept to himself most of the time,
  • But he was special to me.
  • The next three days passed in a blur
  • I didnt know my left from my right.
  • Making calls and making plans
  • Visiting friends at night.
  • Finally, the afternoon of the funeral came
  • We gathered and said our goodbyes.
  • Through music, through stories, through pictures
    and flowers,
  • Through it all, we couldnt help but cry.
  • These now are my final words
  • I have no more to say.
  • Goodbye, my friend Ill see you again
  • When that someday becomes today.

6
Imitation
  • Gods Wheel Shel Silverstein
  • God says to me with a kind of smile,
  • "Hey how would you like to be God awhile
  • And steer the world?"
  • "Okay," says I, "I'll give it a try.
  • Where do I set?
  • How much do I get?
  • What time is lunch?
  • When can I quit?"
  • "Gimme back that wheel," says God.
  • "I don't think you're quite ready yet."
  • Dads Wheel Amanda Pierce
  • (in the style of Shel Silversteins Gods
    Wheel)
  • Dad says to me with a little grin,
  • Hey, how would you like to drive for awhile
  • And steer the car?
  • OK, I say, Ill give er a shot.
  • Where do I turn?
  • Which way is reverse?
  • How fast am I going?
  • Where is the ditch?
  • Give me the wheel, says Dad.

7
Meow
  • Each day is a new adventure
  • In my humans house.
  • I crouch behind a big cardboard box
  • Peeking around the corner ready to pounce.
  • Footsteps in the kitchen
  • I hear a voice in the rear.
  • My ears spring to attention
  • Is that a can opener I hear?
  • After some food and a little water
  • I curl up for a much-needed nap.
  • The fur coat I wear keeps me warm
  • When winters cold slaps.
  • After awhile, sleeping gets boring
  • Yawning, I awake, its time for fun.
  • The eat-sleep-play cycle starts again
  • The work of a cat is never done!

Questions
  • But when morning comes
  • Everythings the same
  • Im still by myself
  • Nothing has changed
  • And now its time to get up
  • And face another day
  • Im glad you cant see me now
  • See me this way
  • I have found the answers
  • Now I can see
  • I threw away the best thing
  • That ever happened to me
  • I know that I hurt you
  • Now I realize
  • I hope you can forgive me
  • Maybe in time
  • When will this nightmare end?
  • So many questions
  • Are running through my head.
  • I said that I loved you
  • But I hurt you instead.
  • Now Im sitting here
  • Right by the phone
  • Waiting for an answer
  • Crying all alone
  • The tears roll down my face
  • Make a puddle on the floor
  • You dont know how much I wish
  • That youd walk through that door
  • But its midnight now
  • Time to face my fear
  • Of being all alone
  • Without you here
  • When will this nightmare end?

9
Daydream
  • If youd all open your books
  • To page six-ninety-three
  • Professor Jones drones on and on
  • I wish nothing more than to be free.
  • I wish I could be
  • Anywhere but here.
  • I dont think this class will never end
  • It seems as if Ive been stuck here all year.
  • I have the attention span of a goldfish
  • I quit taking notes long ago
  • Im really worried about our upcoming test
  • Did he just say its tomorrow?
  • My eyelids are like heavy weights
  • I know my daydream will start soon
  • Where will I travel to today?
  • To the ocean, perhaps a lush lagoon?
  • Next, Im in the African jungle
  • Hunting for wild game
  • This safari is a little surreal
  • These lions seem a little too tame.
  • Now Im driving 75
  • Down an isolated stretch of road
  • Watching my gas gauge inch towards E
  • Im nowhere close to my abode
  • Now Ill never make it home
  • Jeez, Im such a cheapskate.
  • I know I should have put
  • More than 5 bucks of gas in the tank.
  • About the time Im wondering
  • About trying to hitchhike to the next town
  • I see a car off in the distance
  • I failed in flagging him down.

Being Home
Collaborative effort from Interim 2004
  • Sleeping in and staying out late
  • Sneaking in through our old front gate
  • Stepping outside and breathing fresh air
  • Right now I wish that I was back there
  • Being home is where I want to be
  • The old back roads and the quiet breeze
  • Its where I grew up and nothing compares
  • To home, family, and the love we share.
  • A home-cooked meal with the family
  • I wouldnt trade it for anything
  • Seeing old friends and driving through town
  • Walking through school and just hanging around
  • Being home is where I want to be
  • The old back roads and the quiet breeze
  • Its where I grew up and nothing compares
  • To home, family, and the love we share.
