Nutrient

• Nutrient is either a chemical element or compound
  used in an organism's metabolism or physiology.
• Nutrient is broadly classified into that
  providing energy, and that used as components in
  the body or cellular structures.
• Nutrient is essential to an organism if it cannot
  be synthesized in the organism and must be
  obtained from a food source .

  for various proteins in the body.

  chemical reactions of life take place.

• Macronutrients - high concentrations in the plant
  tissue
• nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), potassium
  (K), calcium (Ca), magnesium (Mg), and sulfur
  (S).
• Micronutrients - lower concentrations in the
  tissue iron (Fe), manganese (Mn), zinc (Zn),
  copper (Cu), boron (B), and molybdenum (Mo).

• pH - a measure of the acidity or basicity of
  a solution.
• pH is generally expressed without units
• pH - log10H

• Soil pH is a measure of the acidity or alkalinity
  in the soil.
• It is also called soil reaction.

• Using a pH meter - most accurate method
• Dyes -The sample is saturated with the
  dye for a few minutes and the color
  observed. Kits (pH) containing the
  necessary chemicals and color charts are
  available from garden stores.

• pH also affects the activity of micro-organisms
  responsible for breaking down organic matter and
  most chemical transformations in the soil.
• An excessive growth of aquatic plants can clog
  waterways, and over-stimulation of algae and
  microbes can lead to an algal bloom and oxygen
  depletion.
