Title: Are We Alone

1
Are We Alone?
2
Kepler Telescope
  • Launched from Cape Canaveral, Sunday (March 8).
  • Touted by some as a big step forward in the long
process of answering the question Are we alone?
  • Its on a 3½ year mission to find habitable
    planets.
  • It cost 590 million.

3
Named After Johann Kepler
  • A 16th and 17th century German mathematician who
discovered the laws of planetary motion.

4
Psalm 191-4
  • The heavens proclaim the glory of God.      The
    skies display his craftsmanship.
  • Day after day they continue to speak      night
after night they make him known.
  • They speak without a sound or word      their
    voice is never heard.
  • Yet their message has gone throughout the earth,
and their words to all the world.

5
  • Psalm 81-5
  • David doesnt seem to look at the stars and
wonder if theres life out there like ours. He is
humbled by the idea of God having anything to do
    with us at all.
  • Psalm 501-6
  • Psalm 971-6
  • Romans 118-25

6
  • The creation announces its Creator.
  • From creation we infer traits, not God (Lard
    51).
  • This doesnt mean we find Him, but that we find
    out about Him.
  • Romans 1017
  • 1 Corinthians 29-12
  • Hebrews 116

7
John 11-3
  • In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was
with God, and the Word was God.
  • He was in the beginning with God.
  • All things were made through Him, and without
Him nothing was made that was made.

8
  • Hebrews 11-4
  • Worlds aión ages.
  • The word can also be translated ages. it refers
to time, space, energy, and matterthe entire
universe and everything that makes it function.
  • Of interest to our studythere are no statements
    in the Bible of EARTHs!

9
2 Peter 310-15
  • 2 Peter 313
  • Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look
for new heavens and a new earth in which
    righteousness dwells.

10
  • If God sent out one of his angels to discover
this tiny planet among the hosts of the heavenly
bodies, it would be like sending a child out to a
vast prairie to find a speck of sand at the root
of some blade of grass (Unknown astronomer,
    quoted by McGuiggan 14).
  • David was right (Psalm 84).

11
Why the Kepler Telescope?
  • To find life elsewhere.
  • Why?
  • To prove, ultimately, that evolution is no
theory, but fact. And if it is indeed factif it
    is truethen theres no God.
  • And if no God then no judgment, no
responsibility to someone greater than ourselves.

12
Is There No Difference?
  • Evolution would maintain theres no difference
between fungi growing in a field and Shakespeare
    who wrote Hamlet.
  • Evolution would maintain theres no difference
between a stagnant pond fermenting in the
sunlight and the loving mother who stoops over
    her infant.
  • The Bible says theres a difference!

13
Genesis 11
  • In the beginning God created the heavens and the
    earth.

14
Then God said . . .
  • Genesis 13, 6, 9, 11, 14, 20, 24, 26
  • Genesis 131
  • Then God saw everything that He had made, and
    indeed it was very good.

15
Psalm 141-3, 5
  • The fool has said in his heart, There is no
God. They the fools are corrupt, they have
done abominable works, there is none who does
    good.
  • The LORD looks down from heaven upon the
children of men, to see if there are any who
    understand, who seek God.
  • They have all turned aside, they have together
become corrupt there is none who does good, no,
    not one. . . .
  • God is present in the company of the righteous.

16
John 316-17
  • For God so loved the world that He gave His
only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him
should not perish but have everlasting life.
  • For God did not send His Son into the world to
condemn the world, but that the world through Him
    might be saved.

17
Matthew 2818-20
  • And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, "All
authority has been given to Me in heaven and on
    earth.
  • Go therefore and make disciples of all the
nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father
and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
  • teaching them to observe all things that I have
commanded you and lo, I am with you always, even
to the end of the age." Amen.
