31) What is Linux
- An open source Operating System.
- Numerous versions of Linux.
- One of the most stable OSs.
- Can be customized to look way better than,
similar to or worse than most OS's. - Manages computer resources in a very economic
manner. - Thousands of software and applications
available. - And its all FREE!!!
42) Features of Linux
- Works on any kind of machine
- Extremely stable, secure and reliable
- Multiple language support
- Add your own code for additional features
- Extremely Customizable
- Various looks of the same operating system
- Other features

142e) Visual Effects on Linux
- Multiple Desktops for clutter-free desktop space
- Desktops can be viewed in 3D cubes
- Cubes can be rotated
- Transparent windows, zoom in and out, wobbly
effect on windows, and many other effects fire
etc.
153) Live Demo
- Time for a live demostration of Linux actually at
work
164) Why Choose Linux
- Its Free and open source, that means, you have
the freedom to customize it the way you like. - All the software are free too.
- More secure than most available Oss.
- More users and features added everyday.
- Dell has annouced that it will ship desktop
computers with Linux built-in as the primary OS. - Even Michael Dell Uses Linux for his Home
Computer. - You have a choice to what you want!!!
175) Linux Media Center Edition
- Linux MCE is a direct competitor to many Live TV
recorders and entertainment players especially
Microsoft Media Center - Linux MCE like other Linux products is absolutely
free as well - It features a much more intuitive approach to
watching Live TV and movies at your home and an
easy three button remote control to control all
the media appliances throughout your home
18A little bit about Linux MCE
- On Screen Display Menu
- Gyro enabled remote, which means instead of
hitting the button multiple times you just move
your hand to navigate your menus - You can synchronize all your media throughout the
house and be able to control it with a three
button intuitive gyro remote. - So you will be able to see the same list from
every media in your house. - You can use your bluetooth enabled cell phone as
your media controller
196) Some Technical Background
- What is open source then?
- Why is Linux more secure?
- Developing your own Linux (Eg. Gubuntu)
- Win4Lin (professional application to run Windows
OS)
20Comparing Linux and the other guys
218) Some Disadvantages of Linux and open source in
general
- There are a few bugs here and there because a lot
of software are in development stage...but
nothing major that will blow up your data. - Most of the Linux distros out there are not
company specific, so to get help you have to
search in forums and stuff like that. However a
lot of help is available for OpenSuse, Ubuntu and
Fedora users because they are so popular. - Installing and uninstalling may not be as easy as
Windows YET (The keyword here is YET) (could be a
hassle sometimes.) - Drivers installation can sometimes hard
- Because of having many distros, users might have
a hard time choosing the right one.
22Some free software available(for Windows and/or
Linux)

24Conclusion
- Linux is as easy to learn as any other OS
- Its not about which OS is better, but rather
about the choice of freedom - Linux is the future
