What Is WinZip?

• WinZip is a program used for archiving files in
  the .ZIP format. It is useful for transferring
  many files at once and reducing file size.
• WinZip allows you to receive the zip files and
  extract each file from the archive to access it.

Downloading WinZip

• To download WinZip, simply open Internet Explorer
  or Netscape and go to http//www.winzip.com.
• To go straight to the download page, go to
  http//www.winzip.com/ddchomea.htm.
• Installation instructions are on that page as
  well. (Just click on the link that says download
  WinZip 8.1 SR-1 and open that file (winzip81.exe)
  to install it.)

Using WinZip

• After you have installed WinZip, open Internet
  Explorer or Netscape and go to the CTE
  websitehttp//www.career-tech.tk
  ORhttp//thinkbig.at/career-tech
• Choose your program area (or VoCATS for
  blueprints) to find your curriculum materials
  from the menu on the left.

program area pages.

Unzipping a File

• After you have downloaded the .zip file from the
  CTE website, you are ready to unzip the
  archive.
• Double click on the file (I will use vocats.zip
  for an example) to open it up and prepare it to
  be unzipped.

NOTE Since this version of winzip is an
evaluation version that was free, click on the
Use Evaluation Version button to continue
unless you have purchased the full version.

• Next you will be taken to this screen to
  introduce the WinZip program. Click the Next
  button to continue.

• Next a message similar to this will appear.
  Click the No button to continue.

• You will want to choose the option that has a
  caption similar to Unzip or install from
  vocats.zip in order to let the application
  know what you are attempting to do.
• Click the Next button to continue.

• This next screen will let you determine where you
  want the unzipped archive to be located on your
  computer. By default WinZip automatically unzips
  an archive to the C\unzipped\ directory. Since
  the archive was named vocats.zip, the files
  will be located in c\unzipped\vocats.
• If you wish the files to be located somewhere
  else on you computer, click Select different
  folder and choose the location.

• After clicking Unzip Now, WinZip will begin
  extracting each individual file from the archive.
  This is the last step in the unzipping process.
• Finally, click Close and if the archive does
  not automatically pop up, open Windows Explorer
  and browse to the location you stored it
  (C\unzipped).
