3When Will The Media Center Be Open?
- Hours of Operation
- Teachers
- 745 a.m. 330 p.m.
- Students
- 805 a.m. 300 p.m.
- Students must have their own agenda signed with
barcode to check-out materials.
4Media Center Procedures
- Only send (3) students at a time to the media
center without prearranging with media staff. - Teachers need to sign-up to use the media center,
borrow a TV/VCR/DVD or laptop with LCD projector,
and videotaping from PeachStar. - Return materials promptly after use to avoid
misplacement.
5Teacher Responsibility
- Use videos in media collection
- Outside videos must be previewed connected to
lesson plan. (Form must be completed and approval
granted) - NO PG-13 or R rated movies!
- Teachers are to routinely check students AR
records. Only books on their level count. - Quiz blocking rules
- Tests should only be taken with Reading Teacher
or his/her written permission for a specific
book.
6Teacher Responsibility
- Label materials to be laminated.
- Place on right side of laminator.
- All materials laminated will be placed on left
side of machine for teacher pick-up. - Label materials to be made into a poster.
(Posters can not be laminated) - All posters will be stacked with laminated
materials for teacher pick-up. - Lamination and poster creation will be done in a
timely manner therefore, please be patient. - Please remember to only laminate and create
posters of things that will be reused each year.
7Lost Books Fines
- Fines MUST be paid regularly. (5 cents per day)
- If you have lost a book
- Payment in full
- OR
- Installment plan (Substantial payment regularly)

9Accelerated Reader (AR)
- All AR books have
- Colored Dots
- Point values, reading level, Quiz ID listed
inside. - Fiction organized by authors last name.
Non Fiction books are organized according to the
Dewey Decimal System
10Periodicals / Magazines
- Middle School Journal
- Consumer Science Report
- Mailbox
- Teacher
- Science World
- Newsweek

- Please Do Not Remove Newspapers or current
magazines from Media Center. Others would like to
view them. Old issues may be checked-out at
circulation desk.
11Computer Stations
- Access library catalog
- ATHENA
- (Put in slide from student demonstration about
locating, searching, etc.) - Refer to Teacher hand-out about quick tips.
- Internet
- Teachers MUST be present in order to access the
Internet!
12Leisure Lighthouse Area
- This area is designated for students that have
earned the privilege of 15 minutes of leisure
time in the media center from their teacher. - Students can read, listen to music, draw
artistically, etc.
Please call to check availability of space before
sending a student.
13Peach Star Video Streaming
- Teachers are able to video stream educational
movies or video clips related to the QCCs into
to their classrooms for student viewing. - See quick tips sheet.
Media Specialist will burn a CD of video if given
one day advance notice.
14Career Information Center
- Teachers and Students have access to a variety
of Career Development Resources.
15Information Literacy Skills
- The media specialist will advertise, in the
monthly media newsletter and at grade level
meetings, the information literacy skills that
will be focused on throughout the year. - ALL teachers are encouraged to have their classes
participate.
