million viewers. - But it only took 4 years for the Internet to gain
50 million users. - For that reason, the Internet is no longer the
wild frontier that it was in the 1990s.
3- You dont need many rules if you are driving and
nobody else is on the highway, but you do when
the roads are crowded during rush hour. - Likewise, the more crowded the Internet gets, the
more important are guidelines for good online
behavior. - Here is what I have learned from my own
experience. These rules apply to e-mail,
bulletin boards/forums, and chat rooms.
4Dont SpamThis means no
- Unsolicited Commercial E-mail (UCE)
- Off-Topic Messages on Bulletin Boards
- Chain Letters
- Forwarding of E-mail Hoaxes
5Use the subject line if you have one.
6DON'T USE ALL CAPS!
7Send receive e-mail attachments with care.
- Ask before sending really large attachments.
- Consider using a zip/unzip program.
- Watch out for viruses!
8Before taking part in a chat room or bulletin
board discussion, learn the rules.
9No Trolls! This means no
- Abusive, insulting behavior
- Impersonation of others
- Revealing real-life info
- Creating websites to bully classmates
- Cyberstalking
10Quote only the part of a message youre
responding to.
11Keep those signature files short, too.
12Be nice to the newbies.
- Remember when you were one?
13Dont flirt in the chat rooms.
- You may think youre talking with this . . .
- When youre really talking with this!
14Dont flood the chat rooms.
