  • Local businesses are important to our project
    area because they
  • Reflect local values
  • Embrace the historic character of the area
  • Return money back to the community

Reflections By Ryan
Heres a thought Local, independently owned
businesses are the heart and soul of any
community. These are the stores in our
neighborhoods their owners are our friends and
neighbors. Local First Utah

    environment

Pedestrian Friendliness
Heres a thought The most important public
places must be for pedestrians, for no public
life can take place between people in
automobiles. Allan B. Jacobs and Donald
Appleyard Toward an Urban Design Manifesto
7
Pedestrian Friendliness
Heres a thought Architects and planners take
cities and themselves too seriously the result
too often is deadlines and boredom, no
imagination, no humor, alienating places. Allan
B. Jacobs and Donald Appleyard
8
Green Open Space
Heres a thought In addition to imparting
information about the social world outside, the
opportunity to see and hear other people can also
provide ideas and inspiration for action. Jan
Gehl
9
Use Diversity
Heres a thought I would hate to see all of
downtown look like Gateway. New buildings arent
always better and when everything is new the city
tends to lose its charm. Stephanie Jensen Salt
Lake Donated Dental, Downtown resident
10
Use Density
Existing Street Wall
Restored Street Wall
Heres a thought Density is basic to
settlements because it generates urbanity, that
elusive yet essential quality that is both cause
and effect of dense clusters of human
habitats. Eduardo Lozazo Density in Communities
11
Safety
  • CPTED Principles
  • Step-back architecture
  • No dark alleys
  • Trees instead of bushes
  • Storefronts with permeable glass

Heres a thought The Warehouse District is
perceived as being in a rough part of town.
Grocery stores will then need to be within
walking distance of residential areas and
transport hubs. Stephanie Jensen Salt Lake
Donated Dental and Downtown resident

The Rio Grande terminates the axial path
Eccles Ave. curves organically Prospect, no

Heres a thought It is not the size of the
street that matters, it is the size of the
block. Leon Krier

Change starts with a vision, an intention for
change to occur. Nothing can take place without a
plan. As a result of this course, we as a group
have learned how change can be inspired. We feel
well-equipped to be part of creating change in
the future. This station becomes the beginning
of transformation.
