- A presentation by
- Edilbert Kamal Dass
- Vikram Alle
2Agenda
- The Construction of Reality in the Child.
- by Jean Piaget (1955)
- Psychological Development of the Child.
- by Henri
Wallon (1965) - The Construction of Reality in Robot.
3The Construction of Reality in the Child
Assimilation
- According to Piaget The application of general
schema to a particular instance.
Baby relates dog with the horse and imagines that
the horse is a dog.
4The Construction of Reality in the Child
Accommodation
- According to Piaget The modification of
internal representation in order to accommodate a
changing knowledge of reality.
5The Construction of Reality in the Child
Transition from Sensorimotor Intelligence to
Conceptual Thought
- In the course of first 2 years of childhood
evolution of sensori intelligence. - Child succeeds in constructing a system of
schemata capable of grasping the logical concepts
and relations. - Last stages of development capable of internal
regrouping (accommodation).
6The Construction of Reality in the Child
Transition from Sensorimotor Intelligence to
Conceptual Thought
According to Andre Reyl
- Not all problems are solved by the child by the
end of two years E.g.. Problems related to data. - From ages B/W 3 to 8
- Dynamic Realism Residue of assimilation of
things to actions that accounts for practical
groups and series E.g.. Pushing and Pulling - Optical Realism Imitate others as chimpanzees
do.
7The Construction of Reality in the Child
Transition from Sensorimotor Intelligence to
Conceptual Thought
Sensorimotor Intelligence in Opposition with
Conceptual thought
- Sensorimotor Intelligence Seeks only practical
adaptation (i.e.) it aims at success or
utilization. - Conceptual Thought Leads to knowledge and
thereby yields to norms of truth. - Sensorimotor Intelligence Adaptation of
individual to things or to body of another person
but without socialization of intellect. - Conceptual Thought Collective thought obeying
common laws. -
8The Construction of Reality in the Child
Transition from Sensorimotor universe to Childs
World - Space and Objects
- Child begins by elaborating subjective groups,
then arrives at objective groups. - A Mountain problem given to a child
- Initially Child is egocentric but finally reaches
a stage where it comes out of the egocentrism and
masters the problem and be able to solve the
problem. This the fourth stage where the child
disengages egocentrism. - Complete Relativity is attained at V and VI stage
9The Construction of Reality in the Child
Transition from Sensorimotor universe to Childs
World - Space and Objects
At the end of Sensorimotor Evolution
- The existence of multiple perspective relating to
various individuals is involved in childs effort
to represent space to himself. - E.g. A box or some object upon which the child
acts upon - He is capable of turning the box over in all
directions of representing to himself its reverse
side as well as the reverse side and all visible
parts of the box.
10The Construction of Reality in the Child
Transition from Sensorimotor universe to Childs
World Space and Objects
Temporal Displacement Problem with
the child
- Child finds problem with displacement relating to
the celestial movements - Childs attitude towards moon he believes that
he is followed by these bodies and considers
these apparent movement to be real. - Last remnants of primitive space in child of
school age leads to temporal displacements of
processes relating to object.
11The psychological Development of the child
Stages of development
- First Few Weeks of Childs Life
- Sleep and nourishment.
- First affection manifestation limited to cries
for hunger or calm of sleep or digestion. - Six Months
- Expressing his emotions major stage in mental
development. - Shows interest in colors.
12The psychological Development of the child
Stages of development
- At the age of 2
- Walking and speaking conceptual thought.
- 3 to 5
- Cares more about his attitude and manners.
- Emulation is born The attitude to excel.
- At the age of 5-6
- His interest and thinking broadens up
Transition is slow.
