PME SCHOOLS
  • Introduction Resident and Nonresident
    Professional
  • Military Education is vital for both SNCOS and
    Officers
  • career enhancement.
  • The key difference between resident and
    nonresident
  • courses is that resident school requires
    attendance at
  • their particular school for a period of 3 months
    to one
  • year while nonresident school is a correspondence
    based
  • program that the individual can do at home or
    through
  • study groups.
  • The material is the same at both the resident and
  • nonresident schools, with the student having to
    complete
  • and be tested on the same material.

PME SCHOOLS
  • Differences between SNCO and Officer PME
    Opportunities
  • Officer courses are much longer in length than
SNCOS. The schools that the SNCOS attend
average less than 3 months while for Officers the
minimum time is 9 months with most lasting up to
    one year in length.
  • Officers have other resident schools they may
attend through the other services such as the
Navy, Army and Air Force. These include the
Naval Command and Staff College, Air War College,
Army General Command and Staff College, and the
    Army War College.

DISTANCE LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES
  • Online PME Courses
  • Marine Net is the online website where Marines
have the opportunity to take PME type courses for
credits. This is for all ranks but the number of
classes available is limited. Classes include
    weapons classes, anti-terrorism classes, and
    basic mathematics and English composition
    classes.
  • Distance Learning Opportunities (College Courses)
  • Marines have the ability to take online college
courses with colleges stationed on base. Using
their TA (Tuition Assistance) they can have their
books and tuition paid for by the government. The
G.I. Bill also is an excellent source of tuition
money where the government provides most or all
of the funding needed for tuition and books with
no extra strings attached. To be eligible to use
the G.I. Bill Marines must pay a 1200 allotment
    over one year.
