5History
- The Earth Day Groceries Project is one of the
oldest and largest educational projects on the
Internet. - It was started by a 3rd grade teacher in Seattle,
Washington. - It began in 1994. Forty-three schools sent in
reports saying they had successfully
participated! - Last year over 100,000 students participated!!
6Today
- Thousands of schools take part every year from
all across the world. - This year Monument School will be joining them in
celebrating the Earth and all its resources.
7Four Simple Steps 1 Borrow
- Super G grocery store has loaned us 500 paper
grocery bags so that each student at Monument
School can decorate one. - You get to borrow them for a little while.
- After this meeting, will each teacher send one
student to Ms. Eckert to pick up some bags so you
can get started.
8Four Simple Steps 2 Decorate
- You may decorate the bags with pictures of the
earth, environmental messages, cool slogans, etc.
Be creative! - DO NOT write your names on any bags.
- We will be placing a sticker on each bag that
says they were created by a Monument School
student.
9Four Simple Steps 3 Deliver
- A couple of days before Earth Day, Ms. Eckert
will return the decorated bags to the grocery
store . - The store then distributes these bags (full of
groceries) to happy and amazed shoppers on Earth
Day.
10Four Simple Steps 4 Report
- Ms. Eckert will complete the Report Form on the
project web site with a count of how many bags
Monument School made. - Go to the project web site www.earthdaybags.org
to see Monument Schools pictures.
