Title: LOCATING THE THREE ANGELS MESSAGES

1
LOCATING THE THREE ANGELS MESSAGES
Messenger Tarisai Ziyambi

  • Opposition is the lot of all whom God employs to
present truths specially applicable to their
time. There was a present truth in the days of
Luther,--a truth at that time of special
importance there is a present truth for the
church today. He who does all things according to
the counsel of His will has been pleased to place
men under various circumstances and to enjoin
upon them duties peculiar to the times in which
they live and the conditions under which they are
placed. If they would prize the light given them,
broader views of truth would be opened before
them. But truth is no more desired by the
majority today than it was by the papists who
opposed Luther. There is the same disposition to
accept the theories and traditions of men instead
of the word of God as in former ages. Those who
present the truth for this time should not expect
to be received with greater favor than were
earlier reformers. The great controversy between
truth and error, between Christ and Satan, is to
increase in intensity to the close of this
    world's history. GC 143.3

  • The Message, Not the Messenger. When a new view
is presented, the question is often asked, "Who
are its advocates? What is the position or
influence of the one who would teach us, who have
been students of the Bible for many years?" God
will send His words of warning by whom He will
send. And the question to be settled is not what
person is it who brings the message this does
not in any way affect the word spoken. "By their
    fruits ye shall know them."--Letter 19d, 1892,
    pp. 7, 8. (To Elder O. A. Olsen, September 1,
    1892.) 5MR 351.1

  • "I am the vine, ye are the branches. He that
abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth
forth much fruit for without me ye can do
nothing." Is this the test? Then is not here
given a reason why so little is accomplished by
so many laborers? They have not a living
connection with Christ. The dry branch is to be
united to the living vine, grafted into it. Fiber
by fiber, vein by vein, the graft grows into the
vine stock, until the life of the vine becomes
the life of the branch, and the branch buds and
blossoms, and matures its clusters of rich fruit.
Jesus says to all, whatever their riches, their
learning, their talents, their position, "Without
me ye can do nothing." There is the soul dead in
trespasses and sins, and how is that soul to be
made a partaker of the divine nature?--By coming
to Christ and connecting with him, as the dry,
sapless branch connects with the vine, and
thereby lives. The sinner may unite his ignorance
to Christ's wisdom, his weakness to Christ's
strength, his frailty to Christ's enduring might
and in this union there is confidence, love, and
dependence. When this union is formed, the
principle of the law of association takes effect,
the will is surrendered to Christ's will, and the
sinner has the mind of Christ. The humanity in
Christ has touched our humanity, and our humanity
has touched divinity. Thus, through the agency of
the Holy Spirit, man becomes a new creature in
Christ Jesus. He then abides in Christ, living by
every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of
God. New and heavenly principles are received
through mental, moral, and spiritual association
with Christ. ST, December 21, 1891 par. 9

  • The sapless twig, grafted into the living vine,
partakes of the same nourishment as the vine,
and becomes a branch. The closest possible
relation between the sinner and the Saviour is
seen when the sinner is a doer of the Word of
God. Then the heart, the will, the mind, are in
close union with Christ. By faith, finite,
feeble, helpless humanity joins its feebleness to
His strength. Such a union--showing entire
    confidence and love--our helplessness and
    dependence demands.DG 184.7

  • The branches represent the believers in Jesus
Christ. Those who truly believe, will do the same
works that He did. They are united to Christ by
the faith that works by love and purifies the
soul. As the branch is nourished by the sap which
flows from the parent stock, so the believer in
Christ is sustained by the life of Christ. The
branches represent the very youngest of the
followers of Christ, as the branch includes all
the tiny tendrils that belong to it. Jesus is our
center. He is the parent stock that bears the
branches. In Him our eternal life is centered.
The words that He has spoken unto us are spirit
and life, and those who feed upon his Word, and
are doers of his Word, represent Him in
character. His patience, meekness, humility, and
love pervade their hearts. Jesus said, "Herein is
my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit so
shall ye be my disciples." If we are indeed
grafted into the True Vine, we shall bear fruit
similar to that of the parent stock. SW 52.2

13
  • The gospel of Christ was preached to the Jewish
nation. Had they accepted its truths, it would
have proved their salvation. Through belief in
Christ they might have become members of the
royal family, manifesting through the succeeding
ages the riches of His grace. But they, as a
nation, rejected Christ, refused His offers of
mercy, and were cut off from the parent vine,
that the Gentiles might be grafted in. Still it
is their privilege to become partakers with the
Gentiles of the salvation of God. Belief in
Christ will work in every man a transformation of
    character. UL 309.3

  • The Three Angels' Messages.--The proclamation of
the first, second, and third angels' messages has
been located by the word of Inspiration. Not a
peg or pin is to be removed. No human authority
has any more right to change the location of
these messages than to substitute the New
Testament for the Old Councils to writers and
    editors p26-27

27
Who are the angels?
  • "I have had precious opportunities to obtain an
experience. I have had an experience in the
first, second, and third angels' messages. The
angels are represented as flying in the midst of
heaven, proclaiming to the world a message of
warning, and having a direct bearing upon the
people living in the last days of this earth's
history. No one hears the voice of these angels,
for they are a symbol to represent the people of
God who are working in harmony with the universe
of heaven. Men and women, enlightened by the
Spirit of God, and sanctified through the truth,
proclaim the three messages in their order. LS

28
  • This message is declared to be a part of "the
everlasting gospel." The work of preaching the
gospel has not been committed to angels, but has
been entrusted to men. Holy angels have been
employed in directing this work, they have in
charge the great movements for the salvation of
men but the actual proclamation of the gospel is
performed by the servants of Christ upon the
    earth. GC 312.1
  • Faithful men, who were obedient to the
promptings of God's Spirit and the teachings of
His word, were to proclaim this warning to the
world. They were those who had taken heed to the
"sure word of prophecy," the "light that shineth
in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the
daystar arise." 2 Peter 119. They had been
seeking the knowledge of God more than all hid
treasures, counting it "better than the
merchandise of silver, and the gain thereof than
fine gold." Proverbs 314. And the Lord revealed
to them the great things of the kingdom. "The
secret of the Lord is with them that fear Him
and He will show them His covenant." Psalm 2514.
    GC 312.2

29
  • When God sends to men warnings so important that
they are represented as proclaimed by holy angels
flying in the midst of heaven, He requires every
person endowed with reasoning powers to heed the
    message. FLB 286.8

30
Misrepresentation of God
  • Long had Satan sought to lead men to look upon
their Creator as the author of sin and suffering
and death. Those whom he had thus deceived,
imagined that God was hard and exacting. They
regarded Him as watching to denounce and condemn,
unwilling to receive the sinner so long as there
was a legal excuse for not helping him. The law
of love by which heaven is ruled had been
misrepresented by the archdeceiver as a
restriction upon men's happiness, a burdensome
yoke from which they should be glad to escape. He
declared that its precepts could not be obeyed
and that the penalties of transgression were
    bestowed arbitrarily. PK 311.1

31
Revelation 1613-14 And I saw three unclean
spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the
dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and
out of the mouth of the false prophet. For they
are the spirits of devils, working miracles,
which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of
the whole world, to gather them to the battle of
that great day of God Almighty.

Darkness
  • At first there was little intercourse between the
Israelites and their heathen neighbors, but after
a time Midianitish women began to steal into the
camp. Their appearance excited no alarm, and so
quietly were their plans conducted that the
attention of Moses was not called to the matter.
It was the object of these women, in their
association with the Hebrews, to seduce them into
transgression of the law of God, to draw their
attention to heathen rites and customs, and lead
them into idolatry. These motives were studiously
concealed under the garb of friendship, so that
they were not suspected, even by the guardians of
    the people. PP 454.2
  • At Balaam's suggestion, a grand festival in honor
of their gods was appointed by the king of Moab,
and it was secretly arranged that Balaam should
induce the Israelites to attend. He was regarded
by them as a prophet of God, and hence had little
difficulty in accomplishing his purpose. Great
numbers of the people joined him in witnessing
the festivities. They ventured upon the forbidden
ground, and were entangled in the snare of Satan.
Beguiled with music and dancing, and allured by
the beauty of heathen vestals, they cast off
their fealty to Jehovah. As they united in mirth
and feasting, indulgence in wine beclouded their
senses and broke down the barriers of
self-control. Passion had full sway and having
defiled their consciences by lewdness, they were
persuaded to bow down to idols. They offered
sacrifice upon heathen altars and participated in
the most degrading rites. PP 454.3

1st Angel Message( John The Baptist)
  • Reform message, Self decreasing and Christ
increasing, being grafted to the vine

36
John The Baptist
37
  • The call to repentance was sounded with
unmistakable clearness, and all were invited to
return. "Seek ye the Lord while He may be found,"
the prophet pleaded "call ye upon Him while He
is near let the wicked forsake his way, and the
unrighteous man his thoughts and let him return
unto the Lord, and He will have mercy upon him
and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon."
    Isaiah 556, 7. PK 319.2

38
  • As a prophet, John was "to turn the hearts of the
fathers to the children, and the disobedient to
the wisdom of the just to make ready a people
prepared for the Lord." In preparing the way for
Christ's first advent, he was a representative of
those who are to prepare a people for our Lord's
second coming. The world is given to
    self-indulgence. Errors and fables abound.
Satan's snares for destroying souls are
multiplied. All who would perfect holiness in the
fear of God must learn the lessons of temperance
and self-control. The appetites and passions must
be held in subjection to the higher powers of the
mind. This self-discipline is essential to that
mental strength and spiritual insight which will
enable us to understand and to practice the
sacred truths of God's word. For this reason
temperance finds its place in the work of
preparation for Christ's second coming. DA

  • In every age there is given to men their day of
light and privilege, a probationary time in which
they may become reconciled to God. But there is a
limit to this grace. Mercy may plead for years
and be slighted and rejected but there comes a
time when mercy makes her last plea. The heart
becomes so hardened that it ceases to respond to
the Spirit of God. Then the sweet, winning voice
entreats the sinner no longer, and reproofs and
warnings cease. DA 587.1That day had come to
Jerusalem. Jesus wept in anguish over the doomed
city, but He could not deliver her. He had
exhausted every resource. In rejecting the
warnings of God's Spirit, Israel had rejected the
only means of help. There was no other power by
which they could be delivered. DA 587.2.The
Jewish nation was a symbol of the people of all
ages who scorn the pleadings of Infinite Love.
The tears of Christ when He wept over Jerusalem
were for the sins of all time. In the judgments
pronounced upon Israel, those who reject the
reproofs and warnings of God's Holy Spirit, may
read their own condemnation. DA 587.3. In this
generation there are many who are treading on the
same ground as were the unbelieving Jews. They
have witnessed the manifestation of the power of
God the Holy Spirit has spoken to their hearts
but they cling to their unbelief and resistance.
God sends them warnings and reproof, but they are
not willing to confess their errors, and they
reject His message and His messenger. The very
means He uses for their recovery becomes to them
a stone of stumbling. DA 587.4

43
  • The Pharisees built the tombs of the prophets,
and adorned their sepulchers, and said one to
another, If we had lived in the days of our
fathers, we would not have united with them in
shedding the blood of God's servants. At the same
time they were planning to take the life of His
Son. This should be a lesson to us. It should
open our eyes to the power of Satan to deceive
the mind that turns from the light of truth. Many
follow in the track of the Pharisees. They revere
those who have died for their faith. They wonder
at the blindness of the Jews in rejecting Christ.
Had we lived in His day, they declare, we would
gladly have received His teaching we would never
have been partakers in the guilt of those who
rejected the Saviour. But when obedience to God
requires self-denial and humiliation, these very
persons stifle their convictions, and refuse
obedience. Thus they manifest the same spirit as
did the Pharisees whom Christ condemned. DA

3rd Angel Message (The Cross)
  • Judgement (Christ blood fully grafts the branch
to the Vine, bearing of fruits reveals the true
    branch from off shoots!

45
Revelation 18 Angel (Pentecost leading to AD 34
AD 70)
  • Unites all three messages to ripen the fruit,
giving Glory to the Husbandman Vine. Whole
earth feeds on these fruits and partake of divine
nature of The Vine, those who dont suffer close
    of probation destruction

46
  • I was pointed back to the proclamation of the
first advent of Christ. John was sent in the
spirit and power of Elijah to prepare the way of
Jesus. Those who rejected the testimony of John
were not benefited by the teachings of Jesus.
Their opposition to the message that foretold His
coming placed them where they could not readily
receive the strongest evidence that He was the
Messiah. Satan led on those who rejected the
message of John to go still farther, to reject
    and crucify Christ.

47
  • In doing this they placed themselves where they
could not receive the blessing on the day of
Pentecost, which would have taught them the way
into the heavenly sanctuary. The rending of the
veil of the temple showed that the Jewish
sacrifices and ordinances would no longer be
received. The great Sacrifice had been offered
and had been accepted, and the Holy Spirit which
descended on the day of Pentecost carried the
minds of the disciples from the earthly sanctuary
to the heavenly, where Jesus had entered by His
own blood, to shed upon His disciples the
    benefits of His atonement.

48
  • But the Jews were left in total darkness. They
lost all the light which they might have had upon
the plan of salvation, and still trusted in their
useless sacrifices and offerings. The heavenly
sanctuary had taken the place of the earthly, yet
they had no knowledge of the change. Therefore
they could not be benefited by the mediation of
Christ in the holy place. EW 259.1

GC - The Great Controversy (1911)
Chap. 21 - A Warning Rejected
To secure converts, the exalted standard of the
Christian faith was lowered, and as the result "a
pagan flood, flowing into the church, carried
with it its customs, practices, and idols."
--Gavazzi, Lectures, page 278. As the Christian
religion secured the favor and support of secular
rulers, it was nominally accepted by multitudes
but while in appearance Christians, many
"remained in substance pagans, especially
worshiping in secret their idols."--Ibid., page

GC - The Great Controversy (1911)
Chap. 21 - A Warning Rejected
What was the origin of the great apostasy? How
did the church first depart from the simplicity
of the gospel? By conforming to the practices of
paganism, to facilitate the acceptance of
Christianity by the heathen. The apostle Paul
declared, even in his day, "The mystery of
iniquity doth already work." 2 Thessalonians 27.

  • Thousands were led to embrace the truth preached
by William Miller, and servants of God were
raised up in the spirit and power of Elijah to
proclaim the message. Like John, the forerunner
of Jesus, those who preached this solemn message
felt compelled to lay the ax at the root of the
tree, and call upon men to bring forth fruits
meet for repentance. Early Writings, 233

  • Their testimony was calculated to arouse and
powerfully affect the churches and manifest their
real character. And as the solemn warning to flee
from the wrath to come was sounded, many who were
united with the churches received the healing
message they saw their backslidings, and with
bitter tears of repentance and deep agony of
soul, humbled themselves before God. And as the
Spirit of God rested upon them, they helped to
sound the cry, "Fear God, and give glory to Him
for the hour of His judgment is come." EW
233.1The preaching of definite time called forth
great opposition from all classes, from the
minister in the pulpit down to the most reckless,
heaven-daring sinner. "No man knoweth the day nor
the hour," was heard from the hypocritical
minister and the bold scoffer. Neither would be
instructed and corrected by those who were
pointing to the year when they believed the
prophetic periods would run out, and to the signs
which showed Christ near, even at the doors. Many
shepherds of the flock, who professed to love
Jesus, said that they had no opposition to the
preaching of Christ's coming, but they objected
to the definite time. God's all-seeing eye read
their hearts. They did not love Jesus near. They
knew that their unchristian lives would not stand
the test, for they were not walking in the humble
path marked out by Him. These false shepherds
stood in the way of the work of God. The truth
spoken in its convincing power aroused the
people, and like the jailer, they began to
inquire, "What must I do to be saved?" But these
shepherds stepped in between the truth and the
people, and preached smooth things to lead them
from the truth. They united with Satan and his
angels, crying, "Peace, peace," when there was no
peace. Those who loved their ease and were
content with their distance from God would not be
aroused from their carnal security. I saw that
angels of God marked it all the garments of
those unconsecrated shepherds were covered with
the blood of souls. EW 233.2

60
  • It was not the scholarly theologians who had an
understanding of this truth, and engaged in its
proclamation. Had these been faithful watchmen,
    diligently and prayerfully searching the
Scriptures, they would have known the time of
night the prophecies would have opened to them
the events about to take place. But they did not
occupy this position, and the message was given
by humbler men. Said Jesus "Walk while ye have
the light, lest darkness come upon you." John
1235. Those who turn away from the light which
God has given, or who neglect to seek it when it
is within their reach, are left in darkness. But
the Saviour declares "He that followeth Me shall
not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of
life." John 812. Whoever is with singleness of
purpose seeking to do God's will, earnestly
heeding the light already given, will receive
greater light to that soul some star of heavenly
radiance will be sent to guide him into all
    truth. GC 312.3

  • In June, 1842, Mr. Miller gave his second course
of lectures at the Casco Street church in
Portland. I felt it a great privilege to attend
these lectures for I had fallen under
discouragements, and did not feel prepared to
meet my Saviour. This second course created much
more excitement in the city than the first. With
    few exceptions, the different denominations
closed the doors of their churches against Mr.
Miller. Many discourses from the various pulpits
sought to expose the alleged fanatical errors of
the lecturer but crowds of anxious listeners
attended his meetings, and many were unable to
enter the house. The congregations were unusually
quiet and attentive. CET 21.3 Mr. Miller's
manner of preaching was not flowery or
oratorical, but he dealt in plain and startling
facts, that roused his hearers from their
    careless indifference.CET 21.4

  • Many look with horror at the course of the Jews
in rejecting and crucifying Christ and as they
read the history of His shameful abuse, they
think they love Him, and would not have denied
Him as did Peter, or crucified Him as did the
Jews. But God who reads the hearts of all, has
brought to the test that love for Jesus which
they professed to feel. All heaven watched with
the deepest interest the reception of the first
    angel's message.

  • Daniel 7 v 10, 13, (8 v 14) A fiery stream issued
and came forth from before him thousand
thousands ministered unto him, and ten thousand
times ten thousand stood before him the judgment
was set, and the books were opened. I saw in the
night visions, and, behold, one like the Son of
man came with the clouds of heaven, and came to
the Ancient of days, and they brought him near
before him. And he said unto me, Unto two
thousand and three hundred days then shall the
    sanctuary be cleansed.

67
  • But many who professed to love Jesus, and who
shed tears as they read the story of the cross,
derided the good news of His coming. Instead of
receiving the message with gladness, they
declared it to be a delusion. They hated those
who loved His appearing and shut them out of the
churches. Those who rejected the first message
could not be benefited by the second neither
were they benefited by the midnight cry, which
was to prepare them to enter with Jesus by faith
into the most holy place of the heavenly
    sanctuary.

68
  • And by rejecting the two former messages, they
have so darkened their understanding that they
can see no light in the third angel'smessage,
which shows the way into the most holy place. I
saw that as the Jews crucified Jesus, so the
nominal churches had crucified these messages,
and therefore they have no knowledge of the way
into the most holy, and they cannot be benefited
by the intercession of Jesus there.

69
  • Like the Jews, who offered their useless
sacrifices, they offer up their useless prayers
to the apartment which Jesus has left and Satan,
pleased with the deception, assumes a religious
character, and leads the minds of these professed
Christians to himself, working with his power,
his signs and lying wonders, to fasten them in
    his snare. Early writings p260.1

  • In every age there is a new development of truth,
a message of God to the people of that
generation. The old truths are all essential new
truth is not independent of the old, but an
unfolding of it. It is only as the old truths are
understood that we can comprehend the new. When
Christ desired to open to His disciples the truth
of His resurrection, He began "at Moses and all
the prophets" and "expounded unto them in all the
scriptures the things concerning Himself." Luke
2427. But it is the light which shines in the
fresh unfolding of truth that glorifies the old.
He who rejects or neglects the new does not
really possess the old. For him it loses its
vital power and becomes but a lifeless form.

73
  • Revelation 18 points to the time when, as the
result of rejecting the threefold warning of
Revelation 146-12, the church will have fully
reached the condition foretold by the second
angel, and the people of God still in Babylon
will be called upon to separate from her
communion. This message is the last that will
ever be given to the world and it will
accomplish its work. When those that "believed
not the truth, but had pleasure in
unrighteousness" (2 Thessalonians 212), shall be
left to receive strong delusion and to believe a
lie, then the light of truth will shine upon all
whose hearts are open to receive it, and all the
children of the Lord that remain in Babylon will
heed the call "Come out of her, My people"
    (Revelation 184). GC 390.2

Darkness
  • Revelation 13 v 11-18 And I beheld another beast
coming up out of the earth and he had two horns
like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon. And he
exerciseth all the power of the first beast
before him, and causeth the earth and them which
dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose
deadly wound was healed. And he doeth great
wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from
heaven on the earth in the sight of men, And
deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the
means of those miracles which he had power to do
in the sight of the beast saying to them that
dwell on the earth, that they should make an
image to the beast, which had the wound by a
sword, and did live. And he had power to give
life unto the image of the beast, that the image
of the beast should both speak, and cause that as
many as would not worship the image of the beast
should be killed. And he causeth all, both small
and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to
receive a mark in their right hand, or in their
foreheads And that no man might buy or sell,
save he that had the mark, or the name of the
beast, or the number of his name. Here is
wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the
number of the beast for it is the number of a
man and his number is Six hundred threescore
    and six.

  • The Holy Spirit never reveals itself in such
methods, in such a bedlam of noise. This is an
invention of Satan to cover up his ingenious
methods for making of none effect the pure,
    sincere, elevating, ennobling, sanctifying truth
for this time. Better never have the worship of
God blended with music than to use musical
instruments to do the work which last January was
represented to me would be brought into our camp
meetings. The truth for this time needs nothing
of this kind in its work of converting souls. A
bedlam of noise shocks the senses and perverts
that which if conducted aright might be a
blessing. The powers of satanic agencies blend
with the din and noise, to have a carnival, and
this is termed the Holy Spirit's working. As
with the holy flesh movement, music will again be
used by Satan in an attempt to lead God's people
into experiences that will blunt the true
workings of the Holy Spirit. "Those things which
have been in the past will be in the future.
Satan will make music a snare by the way in which
it is conducted" (Selected Messages, vol. 2, p.
    38).

MYP - Messages to Young People (1930)
Chap. 97 - A Wrong Use of Music
Angels are hovering around yonder dwelling. The
young are there assembled there is the sound of
vocal and instrumental music. Christians are
gathered there, but what is that you hear? It is
a song, a frivolous ditty, fit for the dance
hall. Behold, the pure angels gather their light
closer around them, and darkness envelops those
in that dwelling. The angels are moving from the
scene. Sadness is upon their countenances.
Behold, they are weeping. 296

MYP - Messages to Young People (1930)
Chap. 97 - A Wrong Use of Music
Anything will suit his purpose that will divert
the mind from God, and engage the time which
should be devoted to His service. He works
through the means which will exert the strongest
influence to hold the largest numbers in a
pleasing infatuation, while they are paralyzed by
his power. When turned to good account, music is
a blessing, but it is often made one of Satan's
most attractive agencies to ensnare souls. When
abused, it leads the unconsecrated to pride,
vanity, and folly. When allowed to take the place
of devotion and prayer, it is a terrible curse.

  • The line of distinction between professed
Christians and the ungodly is now hardly
distinguishable. Church members love what the
world loves and are ready to join with them, and
Satan determines to unite them in one body and
thus strengthen his cause by sweeping all into
the ranks of spiritualism. Papists, who boast of
miracles as a certain sign of the true church,
will be readily deceived by this wonder-working
power and Protestants, having cast away the
shield of truth, will also be deluded. Papists,
Protestants, and worldlings will alike accept the
form of godliness without the power, and they
will see in this union a grand movement for the
conversion of the world and the ushering in of
    the long-expected millennium. GC 588.3

2SM - Selected Messages Book 2 (1958)

Chap. 1 - Warnings Against Sensational
Teachings and Emotional Religion
A new order of things has come into the ministry.
There is a desire to pattern after other
churches, and simplicity and humility are almost
unknown. The young ministers seek to be original,
and to introduce new ideas and new plans for
labor. Some open revival meetings, and by this
means call large numbers into the church. But
when the excitement is over, where are the
converted ones? Repentance and confession of sin
are not seen. The sinner is entreated to believe
in Christ and accept Him, without regard to his
past life of sin and rebellion. The heart is not
broken. There is no contrition of soul. The
supposed converted ones have not fallen upon the
Rock, Christ Jesus. 2SM 18.4

During probationary time the grace of God is
offered to every soul. But if men waste their
opportunities in self-pleasing, they cut
themselves off from everlasting life. No
after-probation will be granted them. By their
own choice they have fixed an impassable gulf
between them and their God. Many are deceiving
themselves by thinking that the character will be
transformed at the coming of Christ, but there
will be no conversion of heart at His appearing.
Our defects of character must here be repented
of, and through the grace of Christ we must
overcome them while probation shall last. This is
the place for fitting up for the family above.
Probation is almost ended. . . . Get ready! get
ready! Work while the day lasts, for the night
cometh when no man can work. AG 243

  • But Christ has given us no assurance that to
attain perfection of character is an easy matter.
A noble, all-round character is not inherited. It
does not come to us by accident. A noble
character is earned by individual effort through
the merits and grace of Christ. God gives the
talents, the powers of the mind we form the
character. It is formed by hard, stern battles
with self. Conflict after conflict must be waged
against hereditary tendencies. We shall have to
criticize ourselves closely, and allow not one
unfavorable trait to remain uncorrected. COL
331.1Let no one say, I cannot remedy my defects
of character. If you come to this decision, you
will certainly fail of obtaining everlasting
life. The impossibility lies in your own will. If
you will not, then you can not overcome. The real
difficulty arises from the corruption of an
unsanctified heart, and an unwillingness to
submit to the control of God. COL 331.2

Righteousness manifested
  • Revelation 144 These are they which were not
defiled with women for they are virgins. These
are they which follow the Lamb whithersoever he
goeth. These were redeemed from among men,
being the firstfruits unto God and to the Lamb.

for they are without fault before the throne of
    God.

filthy still and he that is righteous, let him
be righteous still and he that is holy, let him
    be holy still.

  • In every generation and in every land the true
foundation for character building has been the
same--the principles contained in the word of
God. The only safe and sure rule is to do what
God says. "The statutes of the Lord are right,"
and "he that doeth these things shall never be
moved." Psalms 198 155. It was with the word
of God that the apostles met the false theories
of their day, saying, "Other foundation can no
man lay than that is laid." 1 Corinthians 311.
