Title: Tuberculosis

1
  • Tuberculosis

2
  • The scientific name of the disease is
Mycobacterium tuberculosis , and the common name
    is Tuberculosis.
  • The type of organism or pathogen that causes
    tuberculosis is bacterial.
  • Tuberculosis can be caused by the TB bacteria,
exploits the white blood cell witch is called
macrophage, this causes the bacteria to spill
    into your lungs.
  • The chronic effects is that the disease can
cause permanent lung damage, also could spread to
other areas and could end up in life threatening
    situations.
  • Cycle When the bacteria infects the white blood
cell, it causes the bacteria to spread and
infected other areas of the body and it takes
over your lungs and you could die.

3
Symptoms
  • TB mainly affects your lungs (pulmonary
tuberculosis), and coughing is often the only
indication of infection initially. Signs and
symptoms of active pulmonary TB include
  • A cough lasting three or more weeks that may
    produce discolored or bloody sputum
  • Unintended weight loss
  • Fatigue
  • Slight fever
  • Night sweats
  • Chills
  • Loss of appetite
  • Pain with breathing or coughing (pleurisy)
  • Tuberculosis also can targ3et almost any part of
your body, including your joints, bones, urinary
tract, central nervous system, muscles, bone
    marrow and lymphatic system.

Treatments and or Cures
  • In most cases, TB disease can be cured with
anti-TB drugs. To be effective, the drugs must be
taken exactly as prescribed. Treatment usually
involves a combination of several different
drugs. Because TB bacteria die very slowly,
anti-TB drugs must be taken for 6 months or
    longer.
  • Persons with TB disease must continue to take
their medicine until all the bacteria are killed,
even if the symptoms of disease go away and they
start to feel better. Not completing the full TB
treatment can be very dangerous. The disease will
last longer, the person can continue to spread
the disease to others, and the rate of
transmission will increase. Also, the TB bacteria
can become resistant to the drugs being used to
    kill them.

Curiosity
  • Folklore
  • Before the Industrial Revolution, tuberculosis
may sometimes have been regarded as vampirism.
When one member of a family died from it, the
other members that were infected would lose their
health slowly. People believed that this was
caused by the original victim draining the life
from the other family members. Furthermore,
people who had TB exhibited symptoms similar to
what people considered to be vampire traits.
People with TB often have symptoms such as red,
swollen eyes (which also creates a sensitivity to
bright light), pale skin and coughing blood,
suggesting the idea that the only way for the
afflicted to replenish this loss of blood was by
sucking blood. Another folk belief attributed it
to being forced, nightly, to attend fairy revels,
so that the victim wasted away owing to lack of
rest this belief was commonest when a strong
connection was seen between the fairies and the
dead. Similarly, but less commonly, it was
attributed to the victims being "hagridden"being
transformed into horses by witches (hags) to
travel to their nightly meetings, again resulting
    in a lack of rest.
