TARGET HALL ISSUES Vinod Bharadwaj, SLACILC
Positron Source OXFORD MEETINGSeptember 27-29,
2006
  • Introduction Bharadwaj 15 min
  • Target Hall Activation Riemann/Ushakov 15 min
  • Remote Handling Intro Broome 15 min
  • Target Hall Layout Densham/Smith 30 min
  • Discussion/how to proceed everybody 30 min

2
TARGET HALL LIST
  • Overview
  • Known issues, not much progress
  • Layout beamlines
  • Activation
  • Simulations
  • Radiation hard equipment
  • Remote handling
  • Target station
  • Anything else
  • Target hall design, size, utilities, labs ..

3
Conceptual Target Hall Layout Beamlines
4
Target Hall Activation
  • Are activations simulations really necessary
  • Yes
  • Need to estimate the radiation, activation
    environment of the target hall
  • This will determine type and cost of target hall
    equipment (e.g. radiation hard lights?)
  • Design of radiation shielding
  • Operational planning for equipment
    repair/replacement
  • Failure criteria
  • Simulations need to be realistic
  • Simulation errors of factor 2 OK

5
Current Geometries
6
Remote Handling
  • Need operational scenarios for repair/replace
  • We know we will need remote handling
  • What exactly do we need, how good does it have to
    be
  • Are there break points for activation
  • 100 R/hour good, 101 R/hour bad
  • Are there break points in cost where extra money
    does not buy more capability
  • Who will do the work, how much help do we need

7
Target Hall Design
  • Do we have a list of requirements, who will
    provide the requirement
  • Who will do the work, who will help with the work
  • Interaction with the other positron source groups
  • Interactions with other ILC systems
