2
Potential International Collaboration (PFC)
  • PMI collaboration with JET
  • The existing PISCES Be/C and Be/W experiments.
     Model results to predicit erosion/redeposition
    on JET.
  • Intelligent" Be-samples that can monitor the
    Be-wall erosion.
  • W lamella heat flux testing collaboration (Sandia
    with FZJ)
  • Post exposure analysis of tiles coming out from
    the JET wall experiment
  • Experiments to measure Hydrogen retention in
    redeposited Be
  • Erosion/redeposition modeling in collaboration
    with EU efforts.Time Frame FY06-09
  • ELMs analysis of  plasma simulators, guns, etc.
  • HEIGHTS code package analysis of results of
Russian plasma gun comparison with SNL results,
    suggest/guide new Russian experiments.Time
    frame  FY06-07

3
Potential International Collaboration (PFC)
  • Qualification of ITER First Wall PFCs
  • Heat Flux testing of Chinese and Korean mockups
of Be to Cu alloy first wall on PMTF at Sandia.
  • Accelerated fatigue testing of prototype first
wall components from China, Japan, and Korea
(3,000 cycles at 1-3 MW/m2 on sample that is
    60X240 mm) (EB-1200)
  • Life cycle testing of prototype ITER first wall
panels from all six parties (joint EU and US
activity) (30,000 cycles at 0.6 MW/m2 sample as
    above) (VDE simulation TBD)
  • Time Frame FY06-10

4
Potential (and existing) International
Collaborations (ICH)
  • JET - commissioning and operation of the JET-EP
antenna on JET, and continue measurements on the
    high-power prototype antenna at ORNL
  • KSTAR - tests of transmission line cooling using
flowing gas. We would like to work with them on
their rf source tests, but this isn't agreed to
    at present
  • TJ-II - collaborate on modeling, measuring and
optimizing the coupling of electron Bernstein
wave emission in order to facilitate the design
an efficient high power EBW launcher.
  • POLITO Comparison of modeling code predictions
for the simulation of radio frequency antenna
    structures

5
Potential (and existing) International
Collaborations (fueling)
  • JET - pellet injector diagnostics and guide tube
design for the JET high frequency pellet injector
planned for 2007. Participate in the pellet
program on JET for ELM mitigation and inner wall
    fueling
  • KSTAR - fueling system design. K is an
excellent test-bed for ITER pellet injector
    prototype testing
  • Ignitor- design, fabrication and testing of a
high-speed two-stage gun pellet injection system
    for IGNITOR .
  • TJ-II - fueling stellarator plasmas with pellet
    injection
  • PELIN hydrogen ice formation for ITER pellet
    injector

6
Potential (and existing) International
Collaborations (ECH)
  • ECH Transmission Line technology with LHD, NIFS,
    Japan.
  • ECH Launchers-(FOM Institute and JAERI)
--currently expected to be joint work on the ECH
ITER Launchers, which will be assigned to other
ITER partners. Since we get no ITER credit or
support for this work, it should be done via the
VLT. We expect possible foreign investment at GA
    to fund this activity.
  • Joint research on gyrotron efficiency enhancement
techniques. This research would include theory
and experiment and would be in collaborationwith
    JAERI and/or FZK

7
Materials and Blanket etc. Potential/Existing
Collaborations
  • Jupiter II and post Jupiter II (test blanket and
    tritium transport)
  • DOE/ JAERI ferritic steel radiation effects
  • Several bilateral/multilateral collaborations
with other parties on ITER TBM RD and joint RD
    in plasma technologies
