What is Habitat for Humanity
  • Habitat for Humanity International is a
    nonprofit, nondenominational Christian housing
    organization.We welcome all people to join us
    as we build simple, decent, affordable houses in
    partnership with those who lack adequate
    shelter.

Some Quick Facts
  • Since 1976, Habitat has built more than 50,000
    houses with families throughout the United States
    and another 100,000-plus houses in communities
    around the world. Now at work in 92 countries, we
    are building a house every 26 minutes. By 2005,
    Habitat houses will be sheltering 1 million
    people.Local Habitat affiliates coordinate
    house building and select partner families.

  • Habitat houses are purchased by the homeowner
    families. Three factors make the houses
    affordable to low-income people worldwide
  • Houses are sold at no profit, with no interest
    charged on the mortgage
  • Homeowners and volunteers build the houses under
    trained supervision
  • Individuals, corporations, faith groups and
    others provide financial support

Roles of APSU Campus Chapter
  • Support local activities (builds)
  • Develop activities for campus to raise awareness
    of needs
  • Fundraise (both campus and community)
  • Build a house every fours years
  • Spring Break builds (Collegiate Challenge)

How to Organize a Campus Chapter
  • Meet with the local Habitat affiliate.
  • Hold a general meeting on campus to generate
    interest.
  • Identify a core group of interested students.
  • Choose a chapter adviser.
  • Complete the first phase of the application.

  • Recruit new members raise awareness about
    Habitat for Humanity.
  • Discuss upcoming projects with the local
    affiliate.
  • Complete the second phase of the application.
  • Confirm scheduled phone interviews with CCYP.
  • Congratulations! You're officially chartered
    and will receive your welcome packet into the
    Habitat for Humanity family.
